Abergavenny Steam Veteran & Vintage Rally
The Abergavenny Steam Veteran &Vintage Rally will be held in Bailey Park 25-26 May 2014. There will be plenty of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. Guests in Wye Valley holiday cottages are in for two days of steamy excitement.
Mighty clanking steam traction engines, resplendent in their colourful liveries with smoke belching and steam hissing will take centre stage surrounded by a children`s playground with old fashioned rides, a food village, rural crafts and handicrafts, a wealth of stands selling everything from auto & agricultural jumble to garden plants and the latest `must haves` for the home.
There will be veteran, vintage, military and civilian vehicles to discover and an extensive array of motorcycles. Talented model makers will be displaying their intricate array of miniature engines, farm machinery and much more. Crafts men and women will be showing off their skills and country pursuits. Look out for wood turners and even birds of prey.
Each day will be packed with a full programme of arena events and parades of vehicles.

The full programme for this year’s Brecon Jazz Festival, running from 7-10 August, with headliners Grammy-winning jazz vocalist Gregory Porter (pictured), songwriting legend Burt Bacharach and Mobo-award winning singer Laura Mvula topping the bill. There’s a heavy dose of synchronicity at play too as this year’s event also includes an appearance by acclaimed maverick Brit-jazz big band, Loose Tubes, appearing in what is both theirs and the festival’s 30th anniversary year. Hay Festival, 23 May – 2 June 2013, Hay on Wye, Mid Wales Well we hope the sun will shine but whatever the weather the Hay Festival is not to be missed. A feast of debates and conversations with celebrated, sometimes controversial, always entertaining poets, scientists, novelists, historians, artists, gardeners, comedians, musicians, film makers and politicians. Pretty Azalea Cottage was one of the properties recently visited by the Quality Cottages sales team (they visit all new properties every year so that they can speak from first hand knowledge when helping customers). The ladies were very impressed. Owners Ann & Roger Reese provide their guests with hand drawn detailed maps of local walks, including places of interest and an exquisite hamper of Welsh produce including mouth watering chocolate.

During a few days away familiarising themselves with new properties the Quality Cottages sales team ate at Gulshan, an award winning restaurant in Newtown. “We really enjoyed the Bengali food and the service was excellent”said Rose. The Welsh Quilt Centre, Gallery Shop & Cafe, Town Hall, Lampeter Visionary textile artist Kaffe Fasset is exhibiting his quilts for the first time in Wales at The Welsh Quilt Centre in Lampeter. Brecon Beacons Park Society and Brecon Beacons National Park Authority are delighted to announce that the Brecon Beacons National Park has become only the fifth destination in the world to be granted prestigious International Dark Sky Reserve status making it Wales’ first International Dark Sky Reserve.
The accreditation is awarded by the International Dark-Sky Association, based in the USA. International Dark Sky Reserves are areas recognised as possessing an exceptional or distinguished quality of starry nights and nocturnal environment specifically protected for scientific, natural, educational, cultural, heritage or public enjoyment.
