Don’t be afraid…

skirrid inn 350 Dont be afraid...

The Skirrid Inn, Wales’ oldest pub.

Every night, the landlord of Wales’ oldest pub The Skirrid Mountain  Inn, puts out on the doorstep, the ‘devils cup’ filled with ale to appease the devil. So far this nightly ritual has ensured that all guests visiting the ancient pub can do so without a care. They can snuggle in the warmth of the firelight and exchange stories as others before them have done, as far back as the Norman Conquest. Guests staying in Brecon Beacons holiday cottages might be brave enough to visit, but be warned the pub is said to be haunted. The atmospheric Skirrid Mountain Inn is in the village of Llanvihangel Crucorney just 5 miles north of Abergavenny. Food and real ales are served every day (evenings only on Mondays). Booking is strongly advised. Polly V, Quality Cottages’ roving film maker dropped in for a few spirits. Watch her film to see if she found any… Click here if you dare!
