Brecon Beacons, Myddfai Holiday Cottage
  • With spectacular views of the Black Mountain and Mynydd Myddfai and set at the end of a long, curving drive, this renovated former farmhouse is a comfortable and warm home for holidays.
  • Watch Red Kites wheel above the surrounding rolling countryside grazed by sheep as you enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the spacious farmhouse kitchen.
  • A footpath by the side of the garden will lead you down to Myddfai (3/4m) or to Llandovery (3m).
  • This is perfect base from which to enjoy the wide variety of outdoor activities the Brecon Beacons has to offer - walking (the Black Mountain has one of the finest ridge walks in the country), rock climbing, cycling, pony trekking, fishing, golf, bird watching, gliding and many more.

Myddfai, Village of Legends & Myths/Prince Charles
  • Myddfai is famous in Welsh folklore for the Physicians of Myddfai and for the legend of 'The Lady of the Lake'.
  • Visit Ty Talcen, a recently opened tea room and gift shop in the community village centre with lots of local produce to enjoy.
  • Prince Charles has refurbished a farmhouse nearby as his Welsh retreat and many of the soft furnishing fabrics used were sourced from Solva Woollen Mill in Pembrokeshire and the Welsh Quilt Centre at Lampeter.
 
Red Kite Feeding Centre, Llandeusant.
  • A treat for all lovers of bird life is a visit to the feeding centre with its daily spectacle of the Red Kites being fed.
 
Llandovery & Heritage Centre
  • Llandovery, an ancient market town (3m) has an unhurried charm and is where the first independent Welsh bank,The Black Ox, was established by a wealthy drover.
  • Llandovery Heritage Centre offers an insight into the life of the drovers long ago as well as local legends, the railway and local history.
  • There is a tourist information centre, the Heart of Wales Railway, a ruined Norman castle to explore, supermarkets, delicatessen and much more.

  • The National Botanical Garden of Wales and Aberglasney (A Garden lost in Time) are within an easy drive as is Llyn Brianne and Usk Reservoir.

  • Dolaucothi Gold Mine in the village of Pumsaint was in use from Roman times to the 20th C. Take a fascinating tour of the underground workings, marvel at the exhibition on gold and try your hand at panning.

  • Do drop in at Heavenly Cakes & Confectionery,Llandeilo. The shop was opened after years of research in the ice cream and chocolate houses of UK and Rome. Be prepared the place is an Aladdin's cave of tempting confectionery.
 
Ffos Llas Racecourse, Trimsaran
  • Enjoy a day at the races - Ffos Llas is the first turf racecourse to be opened in the UK in the last 80 years.

Llanelli Walking Festival
  • An annual event organised by the Llanelli Ramblers attracting hundreds of visitors to Llanelli with a wide selection of walks to suit all ages and abilities covering the most attractive areas in Carmarthenshire and beyond. Remember your walking boots and sun hat.
 
Ginst Point, Pendine
  • Ginst Point is used for weapons testing and so access is limited. Weekends are usually free. Phone ahead to avoid disappointment 01944 452310. The largest concentration of birds can be seen on a sand pit at the point. Extensive scrub attracts finches and other passerines and the inland areas attract large flocks of golden plover and lapwings.
  • Lots to see and do within an easy drive of this Myddfai holiday cottage on the border of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The owners, a local sheep farming family, take great pride and personal interest in the care of their cottage. Ask about their VIP neighbours.
