About this cottage:
- In the heart of Criccieth this 17th century wing of a Grade II listed manor house has been fully and beautifully restored and is now a stylish and comfortable cottage.
- Set in a wooded enclave the cottage is brimming with character - thick stone walls, shuttered windows, 2 inglenook fireplaces and a stone spiral staircase.
- The surrounding protected woodlands have undulating lawns and an orchard shared ~with (1199)~ to enjoy meals in dappled sunlight under the trees listening to birdsong – what could be more enchanting!
- Criccieth is a thriving community with lots of amenities on your doorstep as well as 2 Blue Flag Beaches flanked by its ancient ruined castle.
- There are a variety of local shops including a bakery, butcher and fishmongers. Good restaurants recommended include ‘Poachers’ and ‘Royal China’ plus an excellent fish and chip shop!
- Join the Coastal Path which hugs the cliff tops - spectacular scenery - before turning inland to the pretty village of Llanystumdwy, visit the Lloyd George Museum there or the Rabbit Farm which children will love!
- The terminus for the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways is close by at Porthmadog.
- Recently opened, the Welsh Highland meanders through spectacular Snowdonia passing the RSPB Osprey Viewing Centre on the wide Glaslyn River then through the Aberglaslyn Gorge culminating at the mighty fortress of Caernarfon Castle.
- This bustling market town, constantly occupied since Roman times, is dominated by Edward I's magnificent 13th century castle which houses the Regimental Museum of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers - Wales' oldest regiment.
- Wander Carnaerfon's streets, browse the craft/shops and take a break at one of the many excellent restaurants, pubs and tea rooms.
- The a la carte menu changes seasonally with daily fish and vegetarian dishes a speciality.
- Gareth Griffiths & Mary White prepare delicious locally caught crabs, lobsters and other seafood. Collect direct from their home 'Ffridd Wen' but please call first to avoid disappointment 01758 770 397.
- Tackle & tuition are given - choose from a 2 hour trip or a full day's fishing. Alternatively sit back and enjoy a 2 hour cruise along the north Lleyn Peninsula coast to see marine wildlife such as seabirds, dolphins, seals and porpoises. Sion will haul a few pots on route to show how lobster & crab are caught.
