Holiday cottage near Dylan Thomas' Laugharne, Pembs/Carms border country of south Wales

A century old white-washed country cottage in the secret 'Valley of the Hawk', a small peaceful wooded vale near Laugharne - perfect for a relaxing holiday in any season.

Paradise for birdwatchers and naturalists there are lovely views from the cosy open plan sitting/dining/kitchen, with its woodburning stove, across open country and marshland to Gower and Worm's Head.

The cottage has recently been completely restored and refurbished and is furnished throughout in a minimalist fresh style with quality modern wooden furniture, bright curtains and pretty bedlinen.

A little further away are the pretty coastal villages of Saundersfoot with its lovely beaches and Amroth, the start of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.

Holiday cottage near Dylan Thomas' Boathouse

Laugharne, on the estuary of the River Taf, is a short drive away and has well known restaurants, shops, tea-rooms, inns, a romantic ruined castle and 'The Boathouse' , a museum to the renowned Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, a village store, a Spar with an ATM, chemist and post office combined and a bakery. (supermarkets & chain stores in Carmarthen).

Pendine Beach for kite flying

Pendine, with its 7 mile long beach famous for Sir Malcolm Campbell's world land speed records, is now popular for kite-buggying and beach games.

Oakwood Leisure Park & CJC Antiques

Inland there is the lush Carmarthenshire countryside to explore and for family days out Oakwood Leisure Park, Folly Farm and Heatherton Country Park are only a short drive away in Pembrokeshire.

CJC Antiques in Llanelli specialises in antique and hand made furniture, collectors items and Welsh country antiques. An ideal place to buy unusual and beautiful gifts and souveniers.

Morfa Bay Outdoor Centre

The former home of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas is now a museum dedicated to his life and work. Peep into his writing shed. It's as if he just stepped outside. The picturesque riverside village of Laugharne has a variety of individual shops and a choice of places to eat and drink and lovely walks.

Swallow Tree Gardens Spa Llanstephan

Luxuriate at the Swallow Tree Gardens in Saundersfoot a leisure spa with an a la carte restaurant and sea views.

The pretty village also has delightful walks, a castle, a few shops, a post office and the Castle Inn on The Square serves ales, wines and bar food including curries and Caribbean meals.

Walk from Amroth to Lydstep

Fit walkers will enjoy this surprisingly challenging eleven and a half mile walk from Amroth to Lydstep. It is full of interest and passes woodland and magnificent coastal scenery.

Bird Watching at Ginst Point Beach

Beautiful Ginst Point is used for weapons testing and so access is limited. Weekends are usually free. Phone (on the day) to avoid disappointment. The largest concentration of birds can be seen on the sand spit by the point. Extensive scrub attracts finches and other passerines and the inland areas attract large flocks of golden plovers and lapwings..
