About this cottage:
- ‘Ty Hen’ in English means ‘Old House’ but this is a large spacious new house, built on the site of the original ‘old house’.
- Bright airy sitting room with sleek wooden floor, stylish comfortable black leather sofas and dramatic black/cream curtains.
- Elegant solid wood kitchen and complimentary dining room suite.
- Ideal for either large parties or just for a couple with its ground floor bedroom and bathroom, the house is furnished throughout to the highest standards.t
- The house has lots of windows and patio doors with panoramic views of the surrounding coast, sea, fields and hillsides.
- On quiet, clear days Ireland can be glimpsed in the distance and the ghostly beam of the Holyhead lighthouse on the Isle of Anglesey illuminates the night sky.
- Porth Iago, a tiny rocky inlet and Whistling Sands ( Yes! They do whistle) are just 15 minutes walk away.
- Close to the tip of the Lleyn Peninsula and the Coastal Path
- There is a village store at Aberdaron 3 miles away which sells general stores, newpapers and alcohol. Pwllheli 15 miles away has a good range of local amenities including interesting independent shops, supermarket, bank. post office, internet cafe, doctor, vet, filling station and 2 markets one on Wednesdays and the other on Sundays (May to Sept)
- Pwllheli is a convenient town 15 miles away and on route to Ty Hen to pick up any shopping, go to the bank and fill up on fuel otherwise Aberdaron is 4 miles away (no bank). Fuel can also be bought at Sarn about 2 miles away.
- This beautiful stretch of land is very special for its birds, plants, diverse landforms and wild seashores. It is steeped in history linked with Bardsey the legendry Isle of 20,000 saints - wonderful for walkers, bird watchers, photographers and botanists.
- Aberdaron, at the waters edge, is a pretty white washed, remote village - the last resting place of medieval pilgrims before their hazardous journey to Bardsey Island. Today it has two newly refurbished hotels, a café and tea room and excellent shops selling local meat, fresh bread and groceries.
- Porth Iago is a short walk away and Whistling Sands (N.T. – and the sands do whistle!) is a mile away.
- Sail from Aberdaron as well as cruises to enjoy the magnificent coastline – look out for the shy grey seals that follow the boats!
- Bass, flounder, dogfish and bream can be caught on low tide so don't forget your fishing gear and favourite seafood recipes.
- Twnti Seafood Restaurant in Rhyd y Clafdy is an 18 year old business specialising in fish, local crab and lobsters.
- Architecturally one of the most impressive castles in Wales. Built to echo the walls of Constantinople its great strength remains to this day. Open to the public daily, do visit you will not be disappointed.
- Hafan Blue Flag Beach is a lovely small sandy cove with breathtaking backdrop of Snowdonia.
- Keen walkers will enjoy this moderately challanging walk of five and a half miles which takes about 3 hours. From the town walk onto the beach and continue south for 1 mile, leave the beach via the slipway and follow the coast path as far as Porth Ceiriad. Head inland on marked paths , do not fork left but continue along the lane to Sarn Bach. Walk on through the fields to the Abersoch Llanengan road. Turn right and back to Abersoch. Wonderful coastal views and rural patchwork.
- Take a narrow guage Festiniog train journey clinging to the mountain and tunneling through it rising 700 feet above sea level through wonderful scenery to the fascinating slate village of Blaenau Ffestiniog.
- The newly opened Welsh Highlands heritage train journeys through the breathtakingly beautiful Snowdonia countryside stopping on route for you to visit the engine sheds and climb aboard the engines.
- Ty Hen is perfect for a holiday on the Lleyn Peninsula north Wales within 10 mins walk of the coast.
