About this cottage:
- A pretty stone Pembrokeshire cottage converted from what was once the smithy and smith’s cottage, set on the hillside leading up to the hilltop village of Mathry.
- Cosy, comfortable and warm with exposed stone walls and high vaulted ceiling. The spacious kitchen/diner is a lovely, welcoming family room with open plan stairs leading to a galleried loft bedroom. The owners, who live in the adjoining but completely separate cottage, has hand crocheted beautiful bedspreads for every bed.
- Leading off the kitchen to the rear is a sun room and gravelled outdoor dining area with table and chairs.
- The sitting room (2 steps down from the kitchen) has a log burning stove and a piano for those who are musically inclined to enjoy!
- Summer short breaks are available at Yr Hen Gof please phone for price and availability.
- Do visit Jim Harries' wood shop. This family run business sells beautiful high quality items small and large from bowls, platters, lamps and bread boards to Welsh dressers and dining suites.
- Mathry is a sleepy village which has a timeless quality and has a pub – The Farmers Arms - (good bar food) Jim Harries’ woodturner’s workshop, 2 farms and the Church of the Holy Martyrs – the doors are always open.
- Wonderful walking and cycling country with easy access either on foot or by car to the numerous coves and beaches along the Pembrokeshire National Park Coastal Path – a beach lover’s paradise - walk through National Trust Broom Wood to the twin beaches of Abermawr and Aberbach.
- Priskilly Golf Course is a few minutes drive away – beginners are welcome and the Club House serves excellent food and drink.
- St Davids Golf Course is a spectacular 9 hole course on the headland overlooking Whitesands Beach – a real challenge!
- Watch the fine woollen cloth being woven and take tea in the tea room – and browse around the shop which sells the unique bedspreads and a wide variety of items made on the premises.
- For an excellent take-away supper choose your favourite food from Cottage Caterers’ excellent menu in the morning and collect it all ready to reheat in the cottage in the evening or try the award winning fish & ships at Something’s Cooking in nearby Letterston
- St Davids, with its magnificent Cathedral and fabulous organ, ruined Bishop’s Palace, newly restored Cloisters, craft shops, art galleries, eating places and restaurants is sure to delight – wonderful concerts are held regularly in the Cathedral with an annual music festival held annually in late May.
- A small town with an excellent Farmers Market every Saturday with lots of lovely local fresh produce.
- Famous as being the site of the Last Invasion of Britain in 1797 commemorated by a ‘Bayeaux like’ tapestry displayed in the Town Hall. This was sewn by local needlewomen to mark the 1997 Bicentenary of this event.
- There are several good coffee shops including Jane’s which is also a haberdashery shop with an enormous range of wools, tapestries, embroidery yarns and much more – a paradise for anyone who enjoy handicrafts.
