Charming and characterful holiday cottages near Llangorse Lake around the Brecon Beacons , in the heart of National Park countryside. Llangorse Lake, the largest natural lake in South Wales is close to Brecon and Llangorse. This incredible natural lake was initially created by the movement of a glacier and has always been a site renowned for its abundance of fish and bird life. It is indeed a paradise for bird watchers, and fishing is permitted in personal boats although a fishing permit must be purchased. The lake has been described as 'a biodiversity melting pot' of natural plants and wildlife, a particularly lovely feature being the white and yellow water lilies that bloom on the lake.
There are many local myths and legends associated with the lake, as it has drawn settlers since ancient Celtic times. Some believe there is an entire town lying at the bottom of the lake, and during stormy weather you can hear church bells ringing submerged under the waves. The surrounding countryside of Brecon Beacons National Park offers some stunning scenery and walks in mountains, valleys and wooded pastures. The more adventurous can try out various water sports such as water-skiing, wind surfing and sailing. Around the waters edge are toilet facilities and a small shop. We have a variety of hand-picked holiday cottages situated within driving distance of Llangorse Lake, with amazing views and high standards of style and comfort.
