About Upper Castlewright Cottage
Kerry Ridgeway holiday cottage with stunning views, Mid Wales Border Country Pet friendly
  • A truly stunning rural idyll this delightful, detached stone cottage dates back to the 15th century and is in a spectacular position for walking holidays right on the Kerry Ridgeway, 500 yds from Offa's Dyke with stunning unrivalled panoramic views of Wales' two highest mountains, Cadair Idris & Snowdon, on clear days.
  • This pet friendly Kerry Ridgeway holiday cottage with wifi  has been refurbished to a very high standard and retains a wealth of beams, original features and a woodburning stove in the open plan living area.
Drovers Inns & Welsh Marches
  • Upper Castlewright Cottage is steeped in history. It has twice been a 'Drovers Inn', once in the 16th century and again in the 18th century. In the 1850's known as "The Britannia" it was a watering hole for drovers from deepest Wales and further afield taking their livestock to the London markets. They penned their animals across the pathway outside, in what is now a second garden.
  • This is the glorious unspoilt Welsh Marches borderlands peppered with market towns and historic sites - a timeless part of the world with lots to explore. Pet friendly.
Kerry Ridgeway & Offas Dyke Trail
  • The Kerry Ridgeway with magnificent all round views, is a 15 mile route through the Welsh Marches never dropping below 1000 ft as it crosses Kerry Hill. A perfect location for walking holidays.
  • This ancient path, its origins lost in the mists of time, is a gently undulating route ideal for walkers, horse riders and mountain bikers as it crosses perhaps one of the finest sections of the Offa's Dyke Trail.
ChurchstokeThis Kerry Ridgeway holiday cottage is situated high above Churchstoke at 1,175ft, the garden fence forming the boundary between Wales and England.
  • There is a pretty church in the centre, which is a conservation area, a large supermarket (Harry Tuffins), as well as a primary school, two public houses (The Horse and Jockey and The Court House Hotel), a Chinese takeaway and fresh locally made ice cream. A market is also held here on Sundays.
Mellington Hall Hotel Restaurants, Churchstoke
  • Formal and informal dining, ranging from afternoon tea and home made cakes in the Offas Dyke Bar to a dinner cooked to perfection in 4 distinctive restaurants; the Cwm Dining Room, the Mahogany Panelled Restaurant, The William Morris Room, and the intimate Shropshire Lounge.
Bishops Castle
  • The nearest English town over the border is Bishop's Castle, 3.5 miles away, with its picturesque main street lined with small shops, excellent pubs & restaurants.
Montgomery
  • This former county town has lots to explore - a castle, beautiful church, shops, galleries, coffee shops, Bunners (a famous ironmongers), The Old Bell Museum.
  • Guests staying in the Jkerry Ridgeway holiday cottage can dine in style at The Checkers Restaurant - recently awarded a Michelin Star - the six or nine course tasting menus, either for lunch or dinner, are true gourmet treats!

John, Van and Steve
We love the cottage – home from home. Fantastically equipped in such a beautiful environment. We drank wine the Summer House looking at the wonderful view, accompanied by a herd of sheep. We have stayed in several holiday cottages and yours is the best and most comfortable.
Carol and Dave
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved Upper Castlewright Cottage - well equipped, packed with interesting features and all modern conveniences. We were toasty warm and very comfortable despite bitterly cold winds and snow flurries. We visited lovely old market towns of Shrewsbury and Ludlow. Yarborough House in Bishop's Castle, just down the road, has a wealth of second hand books and records and serves coffee and cakes, even on Sundays. We had a delicious lunch at The Bottle & Glass in Picklescott - an interesting drive through beautiful countryside.
