Why we recommend Telford House...

Menai Strait holiday house, with fine views across to Anglesey. Pets welcome free. A stylish Victorian manor house.

About Telford House
Menai Strait Holiday House, North Wales
  • Standing yards away from Thomas Telford's iconic elegant suspension bridge, this stylish Victorian manor house is set on the very edge of the Menai Strait - one of the most lovely stretches of water to be found in Britain. The house is on the mainland looking across to Anglesey with mesmerizing views across to the town of Menai Bridge, beyond which are fields and woodlands descending to the water's edge.
  • Renovated with care and furnished with style this large and spacious home with wifi has 7 bedrooms that can accommodate 14. Ideal for family and friends throughout the seasons.
  • There are two sitting rooms. The main lounge has a large Victorian fireplace, huge comfy sofas, large tv with Sky+ and a sun room annexe with patio doors out onto the terrace.
  • A second smaller lounge decorated with large framed posters of movie stars from the 50s and 60s is ideal for those who want their own space.
  • An extra long table in the dining room is perfect for leisurely meals - dining here with the light fading and the illuminated suspension bridge in the background can enhance any occasion.
  • There is a luxury kitchen next to the dining room.
  • A small ground floor office is ideal for those who need to keep up with work!
  • All the first floor bedrooms have a distinctive decorative style, an abundance of white furniture with splashes of muted colours. Most have views of the Strait. The main bedroom has a large bay window, dressing area and en-suite bathroom with freestanding bath and shower cubicle. The 6th en-suite bedroom has dramatic grey/black decor with a stairway up to the 7th loft bedroom where a snuggly super king bed is ensconced in the alcove.
  • The ground floor Piano Room is popular with all ages, fantastic for a good old fashioned sing along!
  • The house is surrounded by a long terrace perfect for full enjoyment of the spectacular views. There is a large patio area at the side of the house for outdoor dining and barbecues. The sloping lawns reach almost to the water's edge and are dotted with mature shrubs and trees, laden with fruit in late summer. Delicious cooking apples and juicy plums, ripe for the picking.
Beaches
  • Newborough beach and adjoining Llanddwyn Island form of the finest beaches in Britain with dramatic mountain views, clean, clear waters, woods and mythology.
  • Llanddwyn Island just 1km long, is a 20 minute walk up the beach from the car park and only accessible at low tide. Beautifully carved wooden gates lead to the small lighthouse beyond.
  • Aberffraw has an unspoilt sandy beach and estuary with the small Medieval Church of St,Cwyfan perched on a little island on the other side of the village (access at low tide only).
  • For windsurfing look no further than Rhosneigr. It's rugged coastline and Atlantic swells make it one of the most popular surfing locations in the UK.
Anglesey Coastal Path
  • From Menai Bridge a fascinating walk passes under the historic Menai Suspension Bridge. The route also leads to the Britannia Bridge before going down to pretty St. Mary's Churchyard and along the shore to the small hamlet of Pwllfanogl.
Plas Newydd (NT)
  •  A large Gothic mansion set in a splendid location at the edge of the Straits, recently renovated the interiors are fascinating. Lawns sloping down to the water are dotted with mature trees, a pleasure to explore. Children will love playing and spotting red squirrels from the treehouse.  The star of the show however is the Menai Strait with amazing views across to the Snowdon Massif and the mighty Britannia Bridge.
Restaurants
  • There has been a flowering of good restaurants in Anglesey in recent years. Walk across the suspension bridge into Menai Bridge and try Dylan's on the quayside, a popular seafood and pizza restaurant. Sosban and The Old Butchers restaurant serves locally sourced seafood and meat prepared with care and served with style and panache - according to one tripadviser review! Also making waves is the Marram Grass at Newborough which is in the 2016 Good Food Guide. Not forgetting the long established Ye Olde Bull's Head in Beaumaris. The Brasserie is open every day but dinner in the Loft restaurant needs to be booked well in advance.
Beaumaris
  • The French workers who built the castle for Edward 1 named the town after the beautiful marshland on which it stands. It is probably the prettiest town in North Wales. As well as the romantic ruined castle it has candy coloured Georgian and Victorian townhouses, a wealth of stylish independent shops, a Victorian pier to enjoy the views and a sinister grim gaol which will thrill children!

Caernarfon Castle and Victoria Dock
  • The huge fortress palace dominates the town 'one of the most striking buildings the middle ages have left us' so claims the guide book with some justice.Beyond the mighty castle is the Victoria Dock the quayside is surrounded by shops, restaurants and a theatre/gallery. Plays, music and films are on the programme and if the weather is inclement visit Palas Print, a brilliant independent bookshop perfect for browsing come rain or shine.
Greenwood Forest Park
  • Children will stop complaining as soon as they arrive in the wooded park. Voted the Best family Attraction in North Wales it is an ideal place for them to let off steam with lots of engaging activities and attractions to keep them amused..
  • A beautiful, large, pet friendly North Wales holiday house with wifi in a sublime location ideally situated for exploring Anglesey, the Lleyn Peninsula and Snowdonia National Park.

We've had a fab time in this lovely house. Had a reasonably lazy week but still managed to fit in lots of visits to castles and beaches....

This house is the perfect venue for friends to share a special event. Thank you to Philippa for helping me organise the most amazing surprise 40th birthday party for my husband. This house has everything anyone could wish for in a holiday house, but what really made it for us were the personal touches from Philippa and Graham. We hope to return one day.

Thanks for being so welcoming. In the course of shared holidays over the 40 years this ranks as the best house we've stayed in. The view is stunning, the rooms palatial and the location provides easy access to Anglesey and Snowdonia. Recommended: Beach & woods at Newborough, Beaumaris, The Sea Zoo, Wales' Highland Railway & Snowdon.
