About The Area
Mumbles Village and The Seafront
  • On the doorstep, take a leisurely five-minute stroll along 'The Prom' as locals call it and you arrive in Mumbles Village. Once famous for oysters,  the oyster beds are long gone now but this area is still known as Oystermouth.
  • The village climbs the hill and winds its way to Mumbles Pier and the bays of Gower beyond.
  • In the village you will find a healthy array of local independent shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries. Sample Welsh goodies at the farmers market held on the first weekend every month. Ty Cafe is a wonderful stop for coffee, children have their own menu and the coffee is to die for here. Chai Deli has a fabulous lunch menu featuring local cheeses and artisan breads. In summer the take out tapas are  legendary here (advance order).
Oystermouth Castle
  • A Norman castle which sits majestically overlooking Mumbles and Swansea Bay is just 5 minutes walk through the woods from Oyster House.  Features include ancient graffiti art from the 14th century, private staircases leading from vaults to banqueting halls and a newly commissioned 30-foot high glass bridge.
  • Events are held throughout the year, including outdoor Shakespeare plays and local festivals, so come along and make a visit to one of Wales' finest castles.
Places to eat
  • Two top notch eateries, side by side just a five-minute walk from Oyster House.  La Parrilla is sophisticated and offers an eclectic Mediterranean menu making it ideal for a celebration.  Next door is Croeseo Lounge - laid back with a more casual attitude. Dogs are very welcome here.  Both venues have stunning views across Swansea Bay. Take your cocktails onto the glass terrace at high tide to watch the water skiers glide by on glassy waters.
Mumbles Pier, Lifeboat Station and Verdis Italian Ice Cream
  • Mumbles is a fascinating village of two halves, Oystermouth and The Pier.  Take a 20-minute stroll to The Pier and learn about the history of The Mumbles Lifeboat before indulging in Italian ice creams at Verdi's.  Overlooking the slipway, the terrace is a perfect people watching spot to lose an hour or two.
Langland Bay and Langlandb Brasserie
  • Just a five-minute drive from Oyster House you will find the hidden gem of Langland Bay.  This is a perfect beach for families, lined with charming Victorian-style bathing huts it is a child's dream beach. There are rock pools, safe bathing (lifeguard), great surfing, cafes and ice creams.  When the sun goes down take a cooling shower and meander over to Langlands Brasserie for sophisticated beach side sun downers and scrumptious al fresco dining.
The Gower Peninsula
  • Mumbles is The Gateway to The Gower.  In less than 10 minutes you have the choice of the stunning wild beaches of Three Cliffs Bay, Oxwich or Rhossili Bay, voted amongst the top 5 in the world.
  • Walk the Gower Way across the backbone of this hauntingly beautiful place. Preserved as Britain's first AONB since 1966. The wild ponies roam free on common land and the beaches are the best-kept secret of Wales.
  • The King Arthur Hotel at the heart of Gower in Reynoldston makes an ideal spot to stop for local Welsh award winning food and ales after a long and carefree day exploring this magical place.

Why you love Oyster House at Mumbles
Oyster House is a fantastic home and location, the pictures do not do this place justice. Every room has been done to a very high standard and beautifully presented. Mary has been a great host and made us all feel very welcomed she answered all our questions even suggested her house maid Nanni who is Thai to cook for us and the meal was fantastic. Thank you Nanni and a big thank you to Mary. We will be coming back .
Julie
Beautiful family house in a wonderful location. Perfect fit for a large family get together and every utensil and gadget to meet our needs. Mary was a wonderful host, offering information, flexibility and assistance when enquiring about this house. The history of the house and all of the other books for useful information really added to our weekend and fresh flowers, fruit basket, and Welsh cakes provided a warm welcome and extremely thoughtful. The bedrooms with each of the bathrooms provided privacy, and self sufficiency for our large family, each one with its own name, character and uniqueness. Will be booking again soon if we are lucky to be able to stay again. Many thanks Mary for sharing your lovely house.
