Southerndown village between Llantwit Major and Ogmore by Sea in the Vale of Glamorgan is dominated by its splendid beach Dunraven Bay which is part of the glorious Glamorgan Heritage Coast. It is a west facing beach backed by impressive sea cliffs with good quality surf and benefits from the warming effect of the Gulf Stream. At low tide there is a huge expanse of sand scattered with rocks and rock pools and is a popular destination for fossil hunters. Remains of Dunraven Castle can be seen on the headland. The walled garden still survives. Glamorgan Heritage Coast holiday cottages are well placed for exploring Dunraven Bay.
