Why we recommend Charlotte's Barn...

Converted barn in woodland setting - a perfect base for family holidays or just to unwind and relax.

About Charlotte's Barn

A delightful barn conversion in a charming location - only 7 miles from Laugharne.

  • This attractive barn conversion in the Carmarthenshire countryside offers welcoming holiday accommodation in a truly unique location amongst 40 acres of ancient woodland - perfect for a family holiday or a relaxing break.
  • Charlotte’s Barn has been lovingly restored and converted with high beamed ceilings, stone walls, 2 cosy bedrooms and thoughtful touches throughout, all of which enhance the romantic atmosphere of the cottage.
  • There are over 70 acres for you to explore at your leisure – head up into the small log cabin in the woods, light a camp fire there or play on the swings – a place for wonderful holiday memories!
  • For those interested in bird life, an extraordinary number of wild birds can be found in the woods, on the pond and two streams and the open fields!
  • A warm and friendly welcome awaits you from the helpful owners (who live across the courtyard). They offer visitors a 4x4 ride round the 70 acres, a quiz for children to help explore the woodlands and a wealth of local knowledge and information.
  • Idyllically located within a short distance of Laugharne and 11 miles from Llansteffan Beach and Castle, both Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire are easily accessible meaning there’s something for everyone to explore no matter what the weather or time of year.
  • Although there are extensive grounds to roam, the barn also offers its own enclosed patio for visitors to sit, relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity with the sound of the babbling river and a symphony of birdsong.

About The Area
Llansteffan Beach
  • Strictly speaking Llansteffan is an estuary with a long pleasant sandy foreshore ideal for fun and games. Swimming is safe when the tide is over the flat sands but one should stay clear of the river bed where currents are very strong. Llansteffan once was the centre of the Welsh cockling industry. Cockling is permitted from June 1st. It is still quite possible to pick enough for a traditional Welsh Sunday tea or a delicious tea on any day of the week!
Scott's Bay
  • Intrepid explorers might like the private seclusion of beautiful Scott's Bay, an idyllic cove accessed via a walk around the headland from Llansteffan. The large expanse of sand has a fresh water stream running over it. Swimming is safe and free of currents. There are plenty of opportunities for rock pooling. Keen fisher folk can cast their lines for bass and flounder in late summer or try spinning for mackerel.
Go Wild Adventures, St Clears
  • Enjoy fan packed family adventures close to Charlotte's Barn. Choose from canoeing, kayaking, archery, initiative games, orienteering, horse riding and more. Booking is essential. Phone 01994 230 559

The National Botanic Garden of Wales and Aberglasney

  • Stroll through the National Botanic Garden of Wales just over 15 miles away. This is a 568-acre parkland containing, both historic and futuristic buildings, horticultural displays, flower meadows, lakes and walks, shops and cafes.
  • Just a little further away near Llandeilo is the medieval house and gardens at Aberglasney. This beautiful site has a rich history which has been preserved for the public by the Aberglasney Restoration Trust and has been featured on several television programmes.

St Clears & Food Shopping

  • Just an 8 minute drive takes you into the village of St Clears, once a thriving port on the River Taf , where there is a newly opened riverside walk to enjoy.
  • Local food shops include Neil’s, an excellent fish and chip take away, two prize-winning butchers, Philip Hughes (Pie Makers of Distinction) and Eynons and an award winning Indian Restaurant – Elaichi.

Laugharne

  • Laugharne, on the estuary of the River Taf, is a short drive away and has well known restaurants, shops, tea-rooms, inns and 'The Boathouse', a museum to the renowned Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Do visit the Tin Shed Experience, built by two local men, the museums focus lies on the World War 2 era. It oozes authenticity and quickly envelops you into the period. Voted 3rd Best museum in Wales!
  • Laugharne Castle is a romantic ruin which dominates the town riverside.  First built in the 11th century as an earth and timber structure, it was built in stone in the 13th & 14th C's, turned into a Tudor mansion in the 16th and now for over 20 years has undergone painstaking archaeological investigation and restoration.

Narberth Market Town

  • The bustling town of Narberth with lots of independent shops, cafes and pubs (great for Christmas shopping) is within a 30 minute drive. Take the family and enjoy a day out and perhaps catch a performance in the popular and vibrant Queen's Hall on the High Street.

Marros Riding Stables

  • Enjoy a quiet hack through woodlands or an exhilarating beach ride - Marros Riding Stables are near Pendine and cater for all levels of experience - why not own a pony for the day?

Tenby seaside town

  • Tenby - a jewel of a holiday resort - has 5 wonderful Blue Flag sandy beaches, North, Harbour, Parragon (known locally as Iron Bar), South & Castle will delight. Stroll around the narrow streets and alleyways lined with craft shops, delicatessen, coffee houses, pubs and restaurants

The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path

  • Now part of the All Wales Path, the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path with its glorious walking covers South and North Pembrokeshire's beautiful beaches. Explore the 186 miles of breathtaking coastal scenery.

Martins Haven and Skomer Island

  • Boat trips leave from Martins Haven, for the magical bird islands of Skomer and Skokholm, just off the Pembokeshire Coast.  These islands are famous for their wonderful bird life - especially Skomer's enormous and comical colony of puffins - and the surrounding waters are some of the richest for wildlife in Britain.

Why you love Charlotte's Barn
An absolute gem! Idyllic peaceful location, fantastic friendly and helpful owners, in an ideal spot for getting out and about around this beautiful area. All the facilities we needed, beautifully kept, allowing us to spend our holiday exploring the surrounding countryside and relaxing back at the cottage. A really big 'thumbs up' from our two boys as a great place to stay.
The M family from Taunton
If you want a wonderful escape with the advantage of being in a glorious country setting but close to lovely beaches look no further. This beautifully converted barn offers extreme comfort with lovely touches - pretty posies of home grown flowers, new laid eggs and lettuce leaves from the garden. The owners, Charlotte and Jerry, are full of local information and make you feel so welcome.
S and D from London
The owners cannot do enough to ensure you have everything for your stay, although they are 'next door', we felt as if we were on our own in the middle of nowhere. Thank you Jerry and Charlotte!
B & C
Charlotte and Gerry are the most incredible, lovely people, and full of interesting anecdotes and info on the area, and are on hand to help with any questions etc....yet also allowed us to have space. The peace of the place is exceptional and the beauty of the woods, birds and flowers makes it the best place to get some relaxation. You can travel to the whole of west and south wales with out any trouble.

The Barn suits us entirely, and doesn't just meet our needs and wish list for a holiday - it exceeds every single one of them!
Richard and Chris Devon
There should be a new category of: 'Human touch' where Charlotte's hospitality would beat all 5 stars of excellence. Her lovely welcome on our arrival with fresh from the oven mince pie won our hearts right away.
