About The Area
Little England Beyond Wales
  • South Pembrokeshire is often referred to as 'little England beyond Wales'. The locals speak English, place names are English and yet the area is surrounded by Welsh speakers on all sides even in north Pembrokeshire! During the 12th century Henry I allowed a number of Flemish to settle in the area and they were soon joined by English settlers. The Flemish and English languages were similar at the time. This led to the extinction of Welsh in the area.
Pembroke & Pembroke Castle
  • Pembroke is an historic town with its magnificent Norman Castle set high on a ridge between 2 tidal inlets and is famous as the birthplace of Henry VII and the Tudor Dynasty. Visitors are rewarded with a fascinating insight into the medieval life style.
  • There are scenic walks nearby including one around the picturesque mill pond with its resident swans, herons and ducks. The high street, lined with predominantly Georgian buildings has a variety of restaurants, cafes (including an award winning fish & chip restaurant), shops, pubs and antique centres and is within a 5 minute stroll. Pets welcome.
The Cornstore, Pembroke near holiday cottage
  • Do visit 'The Cornstore' overlooking the waterway with its unique range of furniture/fancy goods and an extremely good coffee shop.
Pembroke Train Station just a few hundred yards
  • Pembroke also has a railway station so it is possible to let the train take the strain and leave the car at home!
South Pembrokeshire Heritage Coast
  • The wonderful and unique South Pembs Heritage Coast with stunning beaches and coastal walks is within a short drive.
Freshwater East near holiday cottage in Pembroke
  • Translucent azure water with the sands backed by dunes, great for surfing, sailing, swimming and fishing.
Manorbier, Freshwater West & Barafundle Beaches
  • Manorbier 'the fairest place on all the earth' with its Norman castle and sheltered sandy cove popular with families and Freshwater West famed for its surf and ideal for rock pooling and exotic Barafundle - one of the loveliest beaches in the UK with sparkling blue seas ringed by dunes.
Bosherston, Lily Ponds (NT) & Broad Haven South Sandy Beach
  • Broad Haven South sandy beach, with its famous Church Rock is reached via a footpath through Bosherston Lily Ponds (NT) (breathtaking display of water lilies in early June) - take tea at 'Ye Olde Worlde Tearoom' in Bosherston (permits for fishing in the Lily Ponds available here) with its menu almost unchanged for the last 50 years.
Stackpole Village, Quay (NT) & Coastal Path
  • Do visit Stackpole village where the Inn serves award winning bar food and Stackpole Quay (NT) where there is an excellent tea room and direct access onto the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.
Wild Guides Pembrokeshire
  • Personalised tailor made guided nature tours for families and groups. Phone Anna Sutcliffe 25 years world wide guiding 01646 636754. Choose walking or canoeing for your party of 5.

Why you love Goose Barn
This is our first time in a cottage in Wales. It was our choice for a Honeymoon Retreat to ourselves. It certainly did not disappoint us. We have had a truly wonderful time visiting the sites which are varied and many. Will most certainly return in the near future. Thank you so much. Beautiful cottage will be back.

Owners very welcoming and friendly. Even took us out on boat and fishing trips, provided all the equipment for adults and children, fantastic.Home from home cottage lovely and warm. Will certainly recommend it to our friends. Certainly the best cottage we have ever rented. Locality central to all tourist attractions and also those that are not so busy. Will be back again!
Dwyer family
Quiet and cute Wanted to stay in Pembroke but also have the feel of a quiet holiday retreat. Goose Farm offered both. It had enough room for friends and we had a games night in the games room. It is clean quiet but also close enough to the shops and the town. We also explored the area and you can easily access beautiful bays like Freshwater east and Manorbier bay. Great for a group of friends and family. Recommend to anyone interested in history, fun, relaxation and sport.
