Why we recommend Smithy Cottage...

Pembrokeshire pet friendly holiday cottage on St Davids Peninsula sleep 6 near coast and beaches.

About Smithy Cottage
Rural Pembrokeshire Cottage - above Solva River Valley
  • Near to St Davids on the edge of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and tucked away in the tiny hamlet of Skyfog, the Smithy Cottage is a modern pet friendly cottage on the site of an ancient farm dwelling (1798). Newly decorated and comfortably furnished with many intriguing photographs and original paintings by the talented owner, the cottage is set within a small enclosure containing the old Smithy - the tools are left as the blacksmith finished on his last working day in the 1940s. The neighbouring clog maker's workshop was recently removed intact to be preserved in the National Folk Museum of Wales at St Fagans!
Skyfog Common - National Trust and SSSI
  • South facing and catching the morning sunshine, the grounds are full of wildlife and run down to the passing stream and across a small bridge to the meadows beyond. A footpath leads you on to the nearby 50 acre Skyfog Common (NT), designated an SSSI and free for you to roam. The orchard is planted with apple, plum, pear and quince trees and guests are invited to enjoy the fruit as it ripens.
St Davids Peninsula
  • Skyfog is a tranquil hamlet on the edge of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park in an ideal location for easy access to the villages and beaches of the whole of the St Davids Peninsula.
Solva Harbour, coast path, shops and restaurants.
  • Solva's pretty harbour village, encircled by the coastal path lulls the visitor with the chinking of boat masts and lures them with clothes and antique shops, restaurants and pubs and the nearby Solva Woollen Mill.
St Bride's Bay Water Taxi for Walkers
  • Solva Sailboats operate a water taxi which will take you to your chosen destination from where you can walk back along the stunning Pembrokeshire Coastal Path to Solva. Possible destinations include Porth Clais, Porthmynawydd, St Justinians, Nolton Haven and Little Haven (weather dependent). Phone 01437 720972.

St Davids Cathedral and Bishops' Palace - history and culture.
  • At St Davids the beautiful mediaeval Cathedral and Bishop's Palace are an essential visit - the buildings are historic and remarkable and programmes of music and plays are staged throughout the year.
Boat Trips and Outdoor Activities
  • A stunningly beautiful and rugged coastline surrounds the city within 1-2 miles. Throughout the season boats go to land and go round Ramsey Island from the lifeboat station at St Justinian and, for the more intrepid, from the beach at Whitesands. It is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts of all sorts and the local outdoor centres are keen for your custom.
Coast Path Walking and vibrant wildlife
  • The coast path can be joined all around the peninsula - thick with flowers in the spring and an ever-changing panorama of sea and sky, it is a source of pleasure for all whether you want to stride out, walk the dog or just stretch your legs!
St Davids Peninsula Beaches
  • The peninsula is rich in beaches for family days out, surfing, dog walking or rock-pooling. Investigate Newgale, Whitesands, Caerfai, Traeth llyfyn - wide sandy beaches, inlets and tiny coves round the peninsula offer a rich variety of delights.
Cottage in quiet St Davids Peninsula Hamlet
  • Explore the whole of the St Davids Peninsula from this quiet country cottage on the edge of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

Why you love Smithy Cottage
We have all had a fabulous week! & good weather. This house is lovely. Probably the best we have stayed in over the last 10 years in this area. So thank you for making it so! The dogs loved it too, and they slept like babies!! We are so sorry to be leaving, built we hope to come back again.
Ensor family & dogs
We had a brilliant holiday here in Solva. What a fantastic area. We had great weather for most of the week, but rain on the last 2 days - it didn't stop us though. We had so much fun down on Newgale beach in our shorts in the rain. Thank you for the wine & the lovely property. We will be back to Solva.
The Gilchrist family, Swindon Wiltshire
Really enjoyed our stay, lovely home and lots of room for the children & puppy to play! We came for a wedding in Solva but also visited Newgale beach & St Davids. Thank you
Ponsillos
We have had a lovely holiday. The Cottage is very comfortable and very eclectic. Enjoyed going to Whitesands & Porthclais. Weather has been kind to us. Maisie, our Jack Russel, has had a fab time running on the beaches, especially Newgale. Love this part of Pembrokeshire. Thanks very much. Thanks for the wine and the use of the paddock.
Tandy family & Maisie (JR Terrier), Worcs

A wonderful week with the most amazing Indian summer weather!! Lovely cottage and grounds in a lovely area. It's an area we would return to and recommend. Great art work, Lisa very bold and colourful makes me want to 'go big' in my work! A note of caution re Newgale beach - lovely if you are young and fit enough to scale the sea defenses to get to it (huge pebble bank) but if not, like me, don't try! Wine much appreciated! Thank you.
Ray & Marian Marks & Millie the Minx (Shih Tzu), Woking
Enjoyed it so much last year we came back!! Everything is as we remembered. Weather not so great this year but managed a few days on the beach, crabbing at Porthclais. We also took the boys to Castell Henllys in the north of the county - fabulous day out! Mary's ice-cream from Chapel Chocs in St Davids a family favourite!!! Thank you!
