About The Area

St Davids Cathedral City

  • The historic village city of St Davids is 3 miles away. Sample the wide variety of eating places - superb restaurants, small tea rooms, coffee shops, pubs all offering locally sourced food. Browse the individually owned interesting shops and galleries.
  • The beautiful mediaeval Cathedral and Bishop's Palace are an essential visit - the buildings are historic and remarkable and programmes of music and plays are staged throughout the year.

Porthgain and Aberreiddy

  • Abereiddy, has pretty colour-washed former quarry workers cottages, black sandy beach and the remarkable Blue Lagoon. The sand which is visible at low tide, also contains a high concentration of fossils and is a draw for fossil hunters.
  • The charming village of Porthgain has an attractive harbour. In the 18th and 19th centuries it was a flourishing seaport exporting slate and shale. Now it is a quaint harbour occupied with small fishing boats.
  • Have dinner in- or outdoors the Sloop Inn, and enjoy some of the finest Fish and Chips at the Shed where locally caught crab and lobster is also served.
  • Walk along the coast path to the amazing Blue Lagoon at Aberreiddy. A former slate quarry with unnaturally blue water. Look out for the seals. Simply exhilarating.

Whitesands Beach

  • A Blue Flag awarded beautiful sandy beach with rolling waves, rugged rocks and rock pools backed by a small mountain Carn Llidi is just 5 miles away. The beach is popular with bathers, surfers and canoeists as well as walkers and climbers. There is a car park, small cafe, shop and toilets. Dogs are permitted between May and September. Linger awhile and enjoy the wonderful sunsets.

The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path

  • Solva Sailboats operate a water taxi which will take you to your chosen destination from where you can walk back along the stunning Pembrokeshire Coastal Path to Solva. Possible destinations include Porth Clais, Porthmynawydd, St Justinians, Nolton Haven and Little Haven (weather dependent). Phone 01437 720972.

Coastal 'Shuttle' Busses

Boat Trips to Ramsey Island

  • Book a boat trip to Ramsey Island and experience the thrill of a jet boat trip across Ramsey Sound, through the infamous Bitches, and then the contrast of moving in close to the cliffs to see the wildlife at close range. For the less adventurous there are conventional boats which both circuit and land on the island.

Solva

Why you love Penberi Cottage
Penberi Cottage was perfect, warm, very clean and a lovely big bed and all modern conveniences. We found it a great location to explore the coast just diving off down lanes to see where they went. The sheep paying a visit to the front door in the morning somewhat confused our city dog but we loved it. I will absolutely be back loved the whole area fantastic beaches close by and beautiful views a very relaxing break. Did not see an awful lot of Philippa, That was because we where always out not her fault, but helpful when needed and she can give some good pointers on where to go. Highly recommended.

We have had a lovely week. The coastal walks were fantastic and the scenery breathtaking. Took a boat trip to Ramsey Island and Grassholm Island and saw loads of dolphins.

We had a lovely relaxing week. Although the weather was wet and windy on several days - tucked up in this cosy cottage with a good book enhanced the peaceful week. We did get to see the puffins. We will certainly recommend Penberi Cottage to family and friends.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is extremely comfortable and we have done a good deal of walking straight from here. Our first visit to Pembrokeshire - we look forward to returning.
J Carter-Smith Surrey
Penberi Cottage was exactly as described and was scrupulously clean and extremely well maintained. Pippa was helpful and on hand for any advice needed. The cottage is ideal for a couple wanting a peaceful and relaxing location but with options for a variety of coastal walks and even a day in the Preseli Hills. After days spent walking, we were happy to eat in every evening so didn't try any local eateries. We would certainly recommend this cottage

Perfect cottage. Lovely location for a long-imagined return to the holiday places of my youth - no disappointment on either count. The Pembrokeshire coast is still magical. Thank you for making it so comfortable.
J Griffiths London
Penberi Cottage is pretty, spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, cosy (underfloor heating) and well equipped. It is a great location from which to explore Pembrokeshire, walking from the cottage to the coastal path it's perfect for a couple and a dog. St David's is close by, great beaches within 10 minutes drive of the cottage. I'd thoroughly recommend this property and am sure we will return! The owner is friendly and helpful, thanks for a great new year stay.
