Guests staying in Aberaeron holiday cottages during the summer months have a rolling programme of festivals and events to enjoy.
A must for foodies. Cardigan Bay Seafood Festival held on the Quayside beside Aberaeron Harbour is a veritable feast of fish. It has grown and developed year on year to the great gourmet event that is today. Several thousands of people throng the quay to smell, taste, nibble, savour, eat, see and learn all that is fishy. Wales top chefs line up with their field kitchens turning out delicious bowls of irresistible seafood with cookery influences from all over the world. Cookery demonstrations take place throughout the day and lots of other Welsh food producers muscle in giving the perfect balance to this special July day.
Aberaeron Festival of Welsh Ponies and Cobs (usually held in August) will delight all comers. You don’t need to be a qualified horse man or woman to experience the thrill of seeing these graceful, intelligent and spirited creatures being put through their paces. The Square Field hosts a day of equine spectacles including a grand opening ceremony, an introduction of the breeds, driving display, jumping, dressage, fancy dress, running of the stallions, side saddle display, under saddle display, Welsh Mountain Pony Grand National, inter hunt relay display, dare devil stunt riders, and lots more. Do look out for the stunning famous Welsh Cob Stallion lifesize bronze statue in front of the Feathers Hotel.
The fishing town of Aberaeron celebrates and honours the humble mackerel in its annual Mackerel Fiesta usually held in August. Stalls, bands and a parade led by a 20 foot fish set the scene.
Aberaeron Carnival is another August event in which the whole town turns out to parade in fancy dress, make lots of noise, laugh, have fun and party all day long. Colours for 2015 will be purple and orange. Get your costume ready, book an Aberaeron holiday cottage and join in the fun.
If hops and apples tickle your taste buds then enjoy a tipple at Aberaeron Beer & Cider Festival. The Yacht Club hosts this annual August event which has been running for 3 years (2014). Drop in any time from 12 noon until late. There will be a selection of Welsh ciders and perries to try and live music throughout.
