Cardigan Bay is probably one of the best places in the UK to spot wild dolphins, in particular Bottlenose Dolphins. There are two major local groups, one off New Quay and the other off Llangrannog. Porpoises and Atlantic Grey Seals are common too.
In 1992 the Ceredigion Heritage Coast was created and in 1996 the sea area was declared a Special Area of Conservation in order to protect the spectacular unspoilt character of this coastal region.
