Tenby is undeniably one of the most beautiful harbour towns in the UK. Host to many restaurants, shops, cafés and pubs that are linked by authentic cobbled streets to make the ideal holiday destination for all the family. Its geographic position atop a hill led to its early settlement as a Welsh stronghold, replaced in the Medieval Period by a Norman Castle and walled town, some of which have stood the test of time, creating an attractive feature today. We’ve listed just some of the activities you can get up to in the area during a stay in our Tenby holiday cottages.
A day out for all the family at what was voted the ‘Best Family Day Out in Wales’ in 2015, this attraction encompasses a zoo, a barn, a fairground and a play area. There are over 750 animals to observe at the view, as well as the opportunity to get closer to them in the barn! The farm sits on over 120 acres of land, meaning there’s plenty to explore throughout the day.
Babi-Beau Creative Café
This fairly recent addition to Tenby is a hub for creativity, offering activities such as arts & crafts workshops, children’s parties, personalised gifts, T-shirt printing, painting, sewing and mask making. The venue also serves hot and cold beverages and a range of tasty treats to fuel your artistic efforts.
There are many opportunities to go on guided horse rides across the extensive, golden sandy beaches for an experience like no other, as well as hacks through diverse coastal fields and enchanting wooded valleys. A fun day out for horse-oriented families to further their skills in a new environment whilst less experienced riders can try something new all together.
Blue Lagoon Water Park
This exciting, indoor water park offers a whole host of water-based fun, perfect for a rainy day. There is a range of activities including rapids that take you outside, long, twisting slides and a lazy river to relax and recuperate after all the splashing around. There’s even a wave pool that will make it feel like you’re half way across the Atlantic!
There is a variety of surf schools in and around Tenby offering a diverse range of options, from hour-long fun sessions to week-long courses. Learn from the best and play in the wild, wavy conditions that West Wales has to offer, having fun with all the family throughout!
Take the plunge, quite literally, and explore the best of the Pembrokeshire coastline. You and the family can make your way round slippery rocks, helping each other where necessary, before taking the leap of faith into an awaiting pool. You will no doubt experience some of the more rare cliff edge wild life en route and explore caves that are only accessible from the sea.
Throughout the summer months, a fleet of boats run to Caldey Island from Tenby Harbour, every day, except Sundays, if the weather permits. This holy island is great to explore as a family, where you can discover the lighthouse, which boasts panoramic views of the Pembrokeshire coast.
One of Pembrokeshire’s more recent attractions, Makin’ Tracks gives visitors the chance to drive model tanks through water and over logs as well as driving a Segway off road and controlling Traxxas remote control cars. This adrenaline-fueled, action-packed day out is perfect for keeping the kids busy and will give them something to talk about for years to come. We have a sneaky suspicion that dads will enjoy this one too!
Located in Gumfreston, just outside Tenby, this dinosaur park makes a fantastic day out, particularly for younger families. The site includes an Astra Slide, 18-hole adventure golf, off-roaders circuit, super jumper trampolines, sand diggers, jungle climb, pedal trucking, disco boats, motorised tractors and orbiter cars. Spend the whole day here for an experience no one, least not Grandma on the Astra slide, will be forgetting anytime soon!
Oakwood Theme Park
One of the top 10 theme parks in the UK, this site is also host to the biggest wooden roller coaster in Europe. Worth checking out for a fun day out, with something for everyone, and be sure to check the schedule for designated late nights where firework displays are on show, after dark.
There are a variety of companies that offer the opportunity to head out on a fishing boat and catch your own dinner. Make it into a fun and friendly competition to see who can claim the biggest catch, whilst appreciating the stunning views up and down the Pembrokeshire coastline.
These are just a pick of the hundreds of activities you can embark upon during a holiday to Tenby. Our holiday cottages provide the perfect base for you to relax in after a full day of activities, allowing you a good night’s sleep before getting up the following morning and starting all over again!
