Standing on the confluence of the rivers Monnow, Wye and Trothy the market town of Monmouth with its magnificent 13th century bridge over the Monnow is well worth visiting as the centre of Monmouthshire.

It has a variety of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants as well as a number of places of historic interest including Monmouth Castle, birth place of Henry V, the Shire Hall in Monnow Street outside which Saturday markets take place,

The Nelson Museum and Local History Centre, grade II listed Great Castle House, Monmouth Library and Monmouth Priory. The Kymin built in 1794 was once frequented by the 'Picnic Club' or 'Kymin Club' It is now cared for by the National Trust and remains a wonderful picnic spot at 800 feet above sea level with far reaching views over the town and countryside beyond.
