Lake Vyrnwy reservoir boasts the breathtaking Berwyn Mountains as a backdrop. The Victorian stone-built dam, first built in the 1880's, was the first of it's kind in the world and is certainly not to be missed. It is also worth noting the Rhiwargor valley at the head of the lake, where you can find a secret fairytale waterfall.
The area of Lake Vyrnwy is, in fact, a 24,000 acre RSPB nature reserve, with lots of interesting trails and walks to wander through and explore. It truly is an amazing place for bird watching, with secretive hides and spots all around the lake to watch wildlife and admire the spectacular scenery. Cycle hire is available, meaning you can spend a day leisurely cycling around the beautiful lake. Boating, water sports and horse riding trails are all popular in this area.
