About the Area

Beaumaris

  • Take a short cut into the town centre through the 14th century Church graveyard of St Mary's & St Nicholas's Church and take time to admire the effigy of Princess Joan, wife of Llywelyn the Great and daughter to King John in the Church porch. 
  • The town is full of lovely distinctive independent shops cafes, restaurants and galleries. Take an evening stroll and window shop, admire the Castle surrounded by a moat on which swans skim the surface.
  • Walk along the sea front with views across to Snowdonia and admire the impressive Georgian and Regency town houses or just relax on the Victorian pier and enjoy the magical Menai Strait.

Places to eat 

  • High quality eateries abound here with tea rooms, coffee shops, an ice cream parlour and a  fish & chip café/  takeaway. Try the small Italian restaurant above the butchers shop,  owned by a local farmer who supplies all the meat. Opposite the butchers is the famous Ye Olde Bull's Head Inn  -  known for its excellence - enjoy lunch in its modern brasserie or dinner in the Loft restaurant or a drink in the bar in front of a roaring fire and
  •  5 miles away at Menai Bridge Dylan's restaurant sits right on Menai Strait - fabulous food in an unique setting - and The Old Butchers Shop restaurant in the high street is highly recommend (booking advisable for both).
  • Take a drive out to Newborough Beach and visit Marram Grass restaurant which has had a lot of press coverage recently with its inclusion in the 2016 Good Food Guide - don't be put off by its tin shack appearance the food is superb!

Beaches

  • The nearest beach is LLanddona with miles of golden sands which never get too crowded. Further up the coast are the popular beaches of Benllech and Red Wharf Bay.
  • Walk off a hearty meal at the Marram Grass by walking from Newborough Beach to Llanddwyn Island, a magical place.   Cross over to the little lighthouse (low tide only) and admire the beautifully carved pine gates and enjoy views across to the mountains of Snowdon.
Newborough Forest
  • Wander through Newborough Forest and look out for red squirrels which thrive on Anglesey -  a  bird watchers paradise with hides hidden by small lakes deep in the woods or just simply absorb the peace and quiet of this tranquil location.

Walks

  • The Anglesey Coastal Path can be joined at most points on the island and is the best way to enjoy the coastline in all its glory with rugged clifftops, sandy bays, farmland and woodlands. Drive a few miles from Beaumaris and park in the car park at Lleiniog Beach and take the circular woodland walk to admire the diverse tree species to be found here and listen to the birds such as willow warbler, chiff chaff, song thrush and blackbird.

Penmon Point

  • Walk from Penmon to the windswept point of Anglesey, with beach, lighthouse and coffee bar with views on clear days across the Strait to Puffin Island and Conwy Sands - there is an ancient Church and monastic ruins to intrigue.
Pili Plas 
  • The magical world of butterflies, birds, tropical creatures and domestic animals with plenty of undercover attractions, a play area and tearooms.
Plas Newydd Country House & Gardens
  • A splendid 18th century National Trust property overlooking the picturesque Menai Strait with stunning views of Snowdonia in the background. See the famous romantic mural painted by Rex Whistler, the Military Museum, woodland and marine walks, an adventure play trail , boat trips and enjoy a rolling programme of family friendly events. 
Anglesey Adventure Days
