Great Orme holiday cottages on the North Wales coast. The Great Orme is a unique limestone headland that dramatically juts out on the North Welsh coast, adjacent to Llandudno town. It is a natural reserve, with fascinating wildlife and natural history. Great Orme's huge headland is composed of carboniferous limestone, which began forming about 300 million years ago, on a tropical sea bed. If you're walking on Great Orme, you can find fascinating fossil remains all over the place- as well as stunning wild flowers and rare breeds of butterfly. But of course, the main attraction is the incredible view from the top of its 679ft summit. You can see the expanse of coast all the way to Anglesey, and in the other direction Snowdonia's peaks lie majestically on the horizon. For those who would rather not walk up, you can take a delightful tram ride to the summit which stops off at a small museum half way up, where you can find lots of interesting information about the area's history. Once at the top, you can refresh yourself at the lovely cafe-come-shop.
Another fascinating feature of Great Orme is the ancient Bronze Age copper mines. Dotted around the peaceful surrounding of Great Orme Country Park, the mines are an incredible insight into village life in the Bronze Age times. You can take a look at original Bronze Age artefacts and mining tools, and walk through tunnels mined almost 4000 years ago!
The town of Llandudno also has plenty to offer visitors; a great variety of shops, excellent restaurants, pubs and cafes and a wonderful beach with an authentic Victorian Pier. You can visit Great Orme and Llandudno from any of our holiday cottages in the area. We offer a range of luxury holiday cottages- from a hillside holiday home in Great Orme Country Park with breathtaking, sweeping views; a stylish cottage in the medieval walled town of Conwy; or cosy traditional cottages in the postcard perfect Conwy Valley. Great Orme holiday cottagfes are a must for anyone visiting the beautiful North Welsh coast.
