Why We Reccommend Hen Efail

A characterful stone cottage full of charm in the beautiful Conwy Valley, just for 2, set in enchanting grounds near Bodnant Garden, Llandudno and Surf Snowdonia.

Yr Hen Efail (The Old Forge) is a characterful stone cottage in the beautiful Conwy Valley
  • Nestled in the glorious Conwy Valley, this 400 year old forge has been converted into a delightful cottage for two. Set in a magical garden full of mature cherry and apple trees, meandering paths take you through wild garlic to a small stream crossed by a tiny bridge - spot the penguin that keeps guard here!
  • This fairy tale cottage is the perfect hideaway, surrounded by woodland. Wake up to a riot of birdsong in the pretty en-suite bedroom with deep set cottage windows and blue gingham curtains, that look out into the surrounding nature.
  • The cosy open plan ground floor has a wood burning stove in the old inglenook and outside there is a secluded paved area with garden furniture to enjoy meals in the sun.
  • Yr Hen Efail is a year round destination with a variety of attractions just a short drive away.

Surf Snowdonia

  • A major new attraction, this is Britain's first inland surfing lagoon - perfect waves at the press of a button, ideal for surfers of all abilities.
Zip World
  • Are you brave enough to ride the world's longest Zip Wire as it hurtles at 100 mph above the Welsh landscape? Do you dare Bounce Below on huge trampolines strung across deep subterranean caverns in the Snowdonia countryside? Would you like to see the world from a birds eye point of view? Explore Treetop Nets. Would you like to toboggan through the forest? Try weaving, darting and speeding on a Fforest Coaster. Visit Zip World of Adventures.

Bodnant Gardens (NT)

  • You do not need green fingers to appreciate the beauty of these gardens, a truly pleasurable experience throughout the year. Spring has swathes of daffodils, camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons, while in Summer, the famous Laburnam Walk is in bloom and the gardens are full of the intoxicating scent of roses. This is followed by stunning Autumn colours and frosty, sparkling Winter landscapes.

  • This imposing Victorian resort has pristine hotels along the beach front, Punch and Judy shows and donkey rides on the sands. Take the tram up to the Great Orme to enjoy panoramic views of Llandudno, the rugged coastline to Anglesey and the Conwy Estuary. On your return journey, stop at ‘Fish Tram Chips’ which has repeatedly been voted the best fish and chip shop in North Wales. The theatre on the promenade hosts a variety of entertainment, from opera and plays to light entertainment, and nearby there is a Cineworld in Llandudno Junction, for all the latest films. There is excellent shopping with M&S and all major outlets.

  • This is the only town in Britain with medieval town walls still intact. The mighty castle at the mouth of the Conwy Estuary dramatically dominates the town but it is not the only place of historic interest here. Visit the Elizabethan town house Plas Mawr in the middle of the high street which gives an authentic insight into life in a rich merchant's home in the Elizabethan period.

  • Perfectly situated for exploring the lush green Conwy Valley, walk upwards into the Carneddau Mountains of Snowdonia and visit the Bronze Age hill fort carved into the top of the mountain. Enjoy the many bike trails and footpaths which criss-cross the beautiful Gwydir Forest, or just relax and enjoy wandering the country lanes that surround the cottage.

Places to eat

  • Walk a few yards down the lane to the Old Bull Inn which serves food at weekends and certain days of the week. 4 miles away at Trefriw is Chandlers Brasserie which is excellent (booking advisable). The old coaching inn Y Groes is elegant and stylish. Visit the Bodnant Food Centre to stock up on delicious organic meat, sumptuous cheeses and local fruit and vegetables. Dine in the Hayloft Restaurant (booking advisable) or try the local Parry Jones butcher just down the road in Talybont village. Their pies are to die for!
Days away
  • The Isle of Anglesey is an hour's drive away and well worth a day out. Enjoy pastoral scenery, a rugged coast, beautiful beaches, tiny villages and the elegant town of Beaumaris with castle, museum, galleries, shops, waterside cafes, restaurants and pubs. Visit Newborough Warren Nature Reserve home to red squirrels, Llanddwyn Island once home to Wales' patron saint of lovers, St Dwnwyn, Plas Newydd Country House and Garden (N.T.), Bear Grylls Survival Academy, Criccieth, Anglesey Sea Zoo and Halen Mon producers of seasalt for gourmets.
