About The Area
Criccieth
  • This delightful small seaside resort has 2 Blue Flag beaches positioned either side of a ruined castle which dominates the town high on the hill.
  • Plas Bryn Hir is just a short stroll from the centre of the town where you’ll find superb independent shops – butchers, bread and cake shop, excellent fishmongers with a great variety of fruit and vegetables.
  • There are also good restaurants and tearooms. The newly opened Dylan’s right on the beach is an impressive art deco building designed by local architect and creator of Portmeirion. Its menu is full of local produce – choose from Welsh Mussels, Menai Oysters or local Welsh Lamb.
  • Cadwalladers ice cream parlour near the castle has been a popular fixture in Criccieth since the 1930’s.
Criccieth Castle
  • This lofty landmark was the site of the last major rebellion by the Welsh against the English. The castle stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking Tremadog bay. A wonderfulplace to explore with plenty of fascinating history to digest.
Criccieth Food Slam
  • An annual gourmet extravaganza with lots of local street food to eat, local produce to buy, children's pizza making workshops, booze, music and lots of fun.

Wales Coastal Path

  • Goes along the clifftop passing a new modern house nominated on channel 4's 'Grand Design' award competition. The path then turns in land along riverbanks and rural lanes back to Criccieth.
  • The David Lloyd Gorge Museum makes for an interesting afternoon with interesting films and memorabilia of Wales's only prime minister.
Beaches
  • Criccieth has two beaches, Marine Beach and Town Beach, to choose from and nearby is the pretty little cove of Borth y Gest. At Black Rock Sands you can drive your car onto the hard sand. As you motor the length of the peninsula you will find numerous beaches and coves for hours of entertainment.
Bardsey Island
  • Boat trips leave from Porth Meudwy (National Trust) near Aberdaron to visit Bardsey, Isle of 20,000 saints. Once a place of religious pilgrimage it is now loved for its natural beauty, tranquility and abundant wildlife.
Fishing and Wildlife Trips

Wonderful house, superbly equipped. Perfect for our large family get together. Thank you so much. Best place we have ever stayed! By far the most wonderful house we have every stayed in! So big and beautifully decorated – really clean too! Such a fun venue for a memorable family holiday. Will highly recommend to everybody! Thank you.
Stevenson Family (Albany, USA, London, Boston Spa)
It has been a pleasure to stay in such a gorgeous, comfortable and grand home. We have had perfect weather (except no surf!) and the house has been a perfect backdrop for the Halloween season. We hope to return soon. We recommend Portmeirion, Caernarfon Castle, Cadwaladers and the Lion Hotel (fast, yummy and lovely). As well, The Ty Coch – pub by the sea in Porthdinllaen).
The Davy’s and Barkers
What a wonderful house with fabulous views and surroundings, we have truly been blessed to live for a week in this lovely home. Even the weather (rain) did not dampen our spirits. Thank you.
Judy and friends
