About Bwlchgroes

Newly renovated charming Llyn Peninsula holiday cottage

  • This cottage is in a heavenly location near the tip of the Llyn Peninsula - leave the world behind and enjoy the timeless beauty of this special part of the Llyn. Drive down the windy lanes, steep-banked and thick with summer growth and arrive at this traditional welsh farmhouse.
  • A spacious holiday home perfect for tranquil getaways, the farmhouse dates from about 1840 - although there was undoubtedly a dwelling here long before. There are plenty of original features providing texture and character - whitewashed beams overhead in the main living area and exposed stone walls and a feeling of cosinessenhanced by the huge inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove, comfy L-shaped sofa and easy chair, large flat screen tv and lovely dining table and chairs.
  • Just off the living area is a large well-equipped kitchen with all mod cons and on the ground floor a spacious bathroom with walk-in shower and freestanding bath.
  • The three pretty bedrooms are on the first floor together with a bathroom. Enjoy fine views from the little deep-set windows of Porth Neigwl in the distance.
  • Take morning coffee on the small slate patio at the front with views across the fields to the wide bay of Porth Neigwl and the shimmering sea in the distance.
  • A big slate patio at the back is a perfect spot for relaxing surrounded by large sycamore and ash trees with lovely views of rolling farmland dotted with grazing cattle and sheep - ideal for al fresco meals.

About the Area

If you would like more information on the local area, please call us on 01348 837871 to speak to one of our friendly team.

The All Wales Coastal Path

  • Drive down the country lanes to Porth Neigwl (Hell's Mouth) and join the path here to enjoy the magnificent views of this dramatic bay. A perfect beach for windsurfing and kayaking or just walking and running along its length - look out for harbour porpoises and bottlenose dolphins who shelter in the bay.

Plas yn Rhiw (NT), Llanengan and Llangian

  • Walk up to the village of Rhiw and visit the National Trust manor house Plas yn Rhiw. On fine days this lovely little Georgian manor house has outstanding views of the whole of Cardigan Bay right down to Stumble Head. Explore the lovely gardens with their box hedges full of shrubs and flowers, snowdrops and bluebells in the spring and brilliant hydrangars in summer. Walk in the opposite direction and follow the path inland to the pretty villages of Llanengan and Llangian.

Beaches to suit all tastes

  • The joy of a beach holiday is to find your own special cove - but all the most popular beaches are nearby:
  • Aberdaron has a hugely popular, wide beach which is in the village. As popular are the sandy beaches dotted with candy-coloured beach huts at Abersoch, Llanbedrog and Nefyn.
  • Drive to the north coast to Whistling Sands - children will love to find that the sands really do whistle!

Seafood Restaurant

  • Twnti Seafood Restaurant in the village of Rhyd y Clafdy near Pwllheli has earned a well deserved reputation for its high quality food served in a warm and friendly environment. Set in a charming converted barn with a terrace for al fresco dining it has been a favourite for over 26 years.

Aberdaron and Abersoch

  • The little whitewashed village of Aberdaron is a gem - set at the very tip of the peninsula and mostly owned by the National Trust (so there is no unsightly development). Visit the National Trust Visitors' Centre for information about the best walks and vantage points from which to observe the bird nesting sites. See razorbills and guillemots and the chough with its red legs and beak which has become the emblem of the Llyn.
  • Abersoch is a great yachting centre with regattas throughout the summer months - particularly in August. There are lots of good pubs, restaurants and places to eat - the standard is high in this resort, popular with the 'Cheshire' set! The Abersoch Jazz Festival in September is always lively with music played on the streets and the village has a variety of shops including Crew and White Stuff and high end gift shops.

Local Places to eat

  • Close by in Rhydyclafdy, 5 miles from the property is Twnti - the best seafood restaurant on the Peninsula (booking advisable).
  • Seafood caught in this region has won many awards and there is a local cafe and fish and chip restaurant.
  • In Aberdaron, 7 miles away, are two excellent hotels The Ship and Ty Newydd. Ty Newydd has a long balcony just above the beach - a perfect spot to enjoy views of the Isles of Gulls, two small islands in the middle of the bay. The food at both is excellent - treat yourself and ask for locally caught crab or lobster in the summer months - so delicious!
  • Visit the thatched roof bakery for excellent local bread and homemade cakes.
  • In Morfa Nefyn at Porthdinllaen (NT), the famous Ty Coch pub in the former smugglers cove was voted the 3rd most popular beach bar in the world! Close to the beach car park is the Porthdinllaen Cafe which serves food throughout the day with speciality breakfasts including Fishermans and Americana which is really popular with children - maple syrup and pancakes!
  • Just a mile out of Morfa Nefyn at Edern is the Ship a popular gastro pub.

Garn Fadryn

  • Explore the area surrounding the farmhouse and climb up to Garn Fadryn - the highest vantage point on the whole of the Peninsula. There are remains of a hill fort and panoramic views back to Snowdonia where the whole of the mountain range if visible with the pyramid of Snowdon itself at its heart.

Days away

  • Enjoy a day away exploring the magnificent Snowdonia National Park.Enjoy breath taking scenery, nostalgic train rides, Snowdonia Mountain Railway, industrial heritage, walking, mountain biking and thrilling adventure activities such as Zip World's Zip Wire, Bounce Below, Fforest Coaster and Treetop Adventures as well as Surf Snowdonia inland at the foot of the mountain.

Cottage on the Llyn Peninsula, an ideal holiday destination for family and friends. A glorious rural setting but close to all the best beaches and great for exploring an area of outstanding natural beauty.
