Dear Craig, Louise & Gregor You have made this a truly magical, homely & relaxing place to explore North Wales. You have thought of every detail & have exquisite taste in interior design. We have particularly enjoyed the walk to the local beach, the Porthdinllaen walk ending at the Ty Coch Inn on the beach ... so thank you all

This is a fab property in a great location and the owners attention to detail makes for a great holiday. We have climbed Snowdon, relaxed on beaches and visited Caernarfon Castle - all brilliant! Thank you for a luxury property which is so beautifully decorated.

Andy, Sue, Luke and Connor came to Trefor for a great weeks holiday at the lovely Pen Hendre. Really enjoyed the local area and all the thing nearby. Feeling very refreshed. Board games made a comeback. Particularly after a hard day hiking up Snowdon and back. Thanks!

We loved how stylish the house is - and all the little touches which show how much you've thought about what will make your visitors' holidays even better. We loved the beaches at Hell's Mouth + Rhos Neigor - and spent very pleasant times at Porthdinlean and Llanbedrog. Highly recommend the wild swimming at Llyn Pedran.

The Nicholsons are very happy! We've enjoyed staying at Pen Hendre so much. Best holiday in years. Your taste is impeccable and the finishing touches are done to such a high quality that we've felt spoilt every single moment we've had here. I especially loved the ‘vinyl touch'. Awesome, inspired and welcoming. I'm sure we'll come again.

What a fabulous house, warm and inviting. Craig was prompt in attendance when needed (tiny bit of storm damage). The house is ideally located for total peninsula exploration with everywhere being in easy reach. Many thanks.

We only booked Pen Hendre 3 days before as a last minute break ... wow, could not have picked a better place. We were blown away! So much to see and do, and just not enough time. We cannot wait to come back. It's been a fantastic week and you have provided everything a family could want. Many thanks and every success for the future

To Craig, Louise and Gregor,

Apologies for the eviction notice you're going to have to serve on us! We've had an absolutely amazing time at Pen Hendre and don't want to leave.

Highlights have included playing lots of board games, posting messages in the postbox and lots of dancing around the living room. Who knew Jacob was a huge Abba fan! We haven't stopped laughing all weekend.....even when a cheeky seagull ate Mae's ice cream outside Caernarfon castle (she wasn't laughing at that point !)

You've both worked so hard to create a wonderful holiday experience that you'll make precious memories for everyone who visits .

Lots of love and hugs and a huge thank you

Craig, Louise and Gregor

Pen Hendre has been a perfect escape from busy life back home! You guys have literally thought of everything to create a beautiful and relaxing break, your hard work shows in this fantastic holiday home.

The board games got plenty of use especially when storm Doris hit. Calum loves all the toys in 'his room' that he didn't need to play with any he brought with him.

We've made so many memories here at Pen Hendre and it's the perfect location to visit all attractions.
We will definitely be returning!

Love and thanks

Pen Hendre is just perfect for a relaxing cottage break in the peaceful welsh village of Trevor; there is a sandy and shingle beach situated just a mere ten minute walk away and a range of coastal and countryside walks that are quite literally on the door-step...The cottage even comes complete with a range of handy maps to take with you on your walks!

The cottage itself is just magical, the owners have thought of literally everything to make your stay comfortable, fun and memorable! There's plenty to keep you occupied; a miniature football and snooker table, board games, books and even a record player with a range of great records...You simply cannot get bored at Pen Hendre! The kitchen even has everything you need for a picnic including: picnic basket, blanket, flasks and tupaware, you needn't take a thing with you. The décor is very tasteful and beds are so comfy we didn't want to leave!

The little garden outside is perfect for a BBQ (although the early April weather didn't quite allow for this) we enjoyed sitting outside with a hot chocolate and taking in the scenery of Yr Eifl, the mountain which serves as the stunning back-drop to the cottage. If you are lucky enough to stay in the second floor bedroom this is the view you will wake up to every day!

There is a handy little village shop a stone's throw away and its ony a short-drive to the town centre of Pwllheli where there are a great range of shops and restaurants. We also travelled to nearby Caenarfon and Abersoch - both within easy reach for a day out. Pen Hendre is very well placed for exploring the whole of the beautiful Ll?n Peninsula, we can't wait to stay here again as there is still so much more to explore!

I'm lounging on the sofa at Pen Hendre writing this review before our stay ends because I want to say how much we have loved our stay here.

This accommodation is absolutely fab so I won't cover all the usual - take it all as 5 star. I'll cover what makes it special. Pen Hendre has been renovated, decorated and furnished with love, care, enthusiasm, generosity and a great sense of fun. The owners really want you to have a great stay in a way that goes beyond simply making money - it's done with love & we've felt the pleasure they must have had in assembling it all & trying to walk in the shoes of people who come here for a holiday. Children would love it.

The village is just as it comes - friendly, untouristy, Welsh speaking. Whoever you are out there guys - hope you prosper and your imaginative enterprise reaps the rewards you deserve. Oh by the way, coastal path's quite good too!

Had a wonderful weeks break at Pen Hendre. Couldn't fault the cottage which has everything you could possibly want/need for a relaxing break. Craig the owner was very responsive to messages when making a query and the whole place was spotless and put together with an eye for design. The area is lovely and perfectly sited for exploring Lleyn and it's many pretty beaches and villages and only a 40min drive from mountains of Snowdonia. Would happily return and hope to do so in the future.

About the Area

Trefor – quiet seaside village

  • Trefor is a small traditional village at the foot of Yr Eifl a range of three hills that dominate the skyline above Trefor. The village has a small pub and there is a village shop conveniently located across the road from the property.
  • Just a short walk from the cottage there is a small beach, a mix of sand and pebbles and a little pier – which is now a popular spot with fishermen.
  • Trefor is conveniently located a short bus ride (20 min) from both the market town of Pwllheli and historic Caernarfon (30 min).

Coastal Path and beaches

  • From Trefor beach you can gain access to the coastal path but be warned there are steep drops along the edge of the cliff. However, the path offers magnificent views up towards the old granite quarry that is still one of the main suppliers of curling stones for the popular Scottish sport.

 Nefyn, Morfa Nefyn and Porthdinllaen

  • A short drive over the mountain, join the path again at lovely Nefyn to admire the 2 beautiful bays of Nefyn and Morfa Nefyn.
  • Dip down onto Nefyn beach with its bright, colourful beach huts. The sandy beach is great for sunbathing - do take a stroll along the cliff top Coastal Path to enjoy the stunning views and the variety of bird life.
  • Morfa Nefyn, with its renowned golf course, is on the next stretch of this long sandy beach. The neighbouring villages of Nefyn and Morfa Nefyn between them have a range of amenities including bank, post office, library with internet access, Londis supermarket, grocery shop with proper butchers counter, fresh fruit & vegetables, chemist, doctor and a filling station.
  • Beyond the rocky promontory beyond Morfa Nefyn is the smugglers’ cove at Porthdinllaen.  The beach is lovely and sandy with the famous ‘Ty Coch’ pub on the water's edge - dip your feet in the water while enjoying traditional ales. The pub is so popular it has been voted the 3rd most popular beach bar in the world!

The Llyn Peninsula

  • Discover the lovely Llyn Peninsula - enjoy the cliffs and beaches along one of the most remote and unspoilt coastline in Wales with spectacular views from bracken covered headlands. Look out for grey seals small colonies are established around the coastline and a wealth of sea birds.

Criccieth and Pwllheli

  • A short drive across the peninsula from Pen Hendre are the popular holiday towns of Criccieth and Pwllheli.
  • Criccieth town is overlooked by its distinctive ruined Castle on the hillside which separates the 2 Blue Flag beaches. There are lots of locally owned shops - deli/coffee shop, butchers and fishmongers - good recommended restaurants are 'Poachers and 'Royal China' restaurants as well as Dylan's on the beach housed in a stunning art deco building designed by local architect and creator of Portmeirion, Clough William.
  • The centre of the popular seaside town of Pwllheli has many distinctive independent shops, boutiques and coffee shops - enjoy lunch or coffee at 'Taro Deg' (Striking Ten) a locally owned café which is highly recommended. There is plenty to distract and entertain you.

Pilgrims churches

  • A few miles northward from Trefor is the village of Clynnog Fawr. The very large and impressive church has many original fittings and a saint's shrine in a small chapel at the side where sick pilgrims would rest on rushes before continuing their journey.
  • On the mountain road towards Nefyn is the small hamlet of Pistyll where down off the main road is a lovely 12th century church just above the cliff. It is kept as it was long ago with sweet smelling rushes on the floor and walls adorned with medical herbs - apparently a long standing local tradition relating to the needs of the pilgrims. The pilgrims' destination was Bardsey Island and the embarkation point was the lovely whitewashed village of Aberdaron. Here there is also a stunning church and boat trips can be taken to Bardsey itself.

Caernarfon Castle and Victoria Dock

  • Edward I's colossal building is magnificent and breathtaking. Wander round this huge fortress - children will love the circular stairways up to the towers with their arrow slit walls and creepy dungeons.
  • The Victoria Dock nearby has a theatre and restaurants and Caernarfon has a number of quirky shops including an excellent independent book shop. Palas Prints is a good place for browsing on wet days.

Days Away

Snowdonia National Park

  • This is about 40 minutes away by car. Llanberis, at the foot of Snowdon, is the perfect starting point for a walk to the summit and the Snowdon Mountain Railway starts here. Pick a good day to see the views if going by train. Booking is advisable. Exciting new ventures Zip World and Bounce Below are very popular - the zip wire run is not for the faint hearted! Bounce Below is in the heart of the old slate mine - huge trampoline nets are set in 2 vast chambers linked together by walkways and slides. Advance booking advisable.

Surf Snowdonia

  • Newly opened in the Conwy Valley this is going to be a hugely popular attraction - 300 meter lagoon which can produce two meter high waves which surfing enthusiasts will love.

Pen Hendre is a delightfully creative, comfortable and stylish cottage for Llyn Peninsula holidays at any time of the year.
