An amazing cottage with an awesome view. Very spacious with everything you could need. Comfortable, clean, spacious within walking distance of lovely restaurants and awesome coastal paths. In summer it must be beautiful. One niggle is parking. I called twice to ensure there was enough parking and was assured there was ample street parking. Had my mother accompanied me, it Would have been a disaster as we couldn't find parking. Neither could we stop alongside to offload as the road outside is extremely busy. We parked far away and when we loaded the car to leave we went into the apartments alongside and got verbal from a resident which made for an awful feeling to leave on. I don't think the owner should mislead like that. The place itself was 100% in a stunning location.

Thank you for your review we are glad that you loved the cottage, however, we will be looking into the wording on our website regarding the parking.

Warm & well appointed. It would be helpful to have oven gloves, a measuring jug and weighing scales in the kitchen. Not everyone eats out! The description of the property on the website should not state that there is ample parking in Norton Avenue because there is not. We were lucky to get the last space at the top of another road which meant lengthy trekking to and fro to unload the car on arrival. And that was in November; one imagines it would be a lot worse in the summer. Furthermore, there is no parking space in front of a garage (or if there is we did not see it) so this should be deleted from the description of the property (or the visitor information should explain exactly where it is).

Places To Eat

  • In Mumbles village 2 minutes walk away along 'The Prom'. Dine in style with a view to match at Pierres Bistro. This first-floor restaurant has an al fresco terrace and a glass front. Croseo Lounge serves modern British cuisine and is dog-friendly too. Great for a slow breakfast or an easy lunch. La Perilla brings Mediterranean sophistication to Mumbles. All three venues have stunning sea views across Swansea Bay to Devon beyond. Take your cocktails onto the glass terrace at high tide to watch the water skiers glide by on glassy waters.
  • Fish and Chips from Yallops on the sea wall watching the yachts race across the bay is hard to beat but freshly caught local seafood cooked to order from Mumbles Seafood Shack right on The Prom may just win over your taste buds.
  • Joes Ice Cream Parlour in the village vies with Verdi's Cafe along the Prom for the best Italian homemade ice cream, both are delicious and will have you coming back for just one more scoop.
  • Dog friendly Langland Cafe is a local favourite, every morning you are guaranteed a tasty breakfast and always great coffee. Summer on the terrace and winter around the log burner this spot is perfect all year round. At the other end of Langland Bay, The Brasserie is a magic spot for sundowners while the children finish just one more sandcastle on the beach below.
  • Sunday wouldn't be Sunday without Sunday lunch. Norton House Hotel is the place to go, 100 yards from Oyster Cottage.

Mumbles Village and the Seafront

  • Oyster Cottage lies within the old fishing village of Mumbles, the nets and oyster pots are now just a memory but Mumbles has evolved into a diverse holiday destination. The village winds up the hill and along to the headland. Always a vibrant place, you will be spoilt for choice with restaurants, cafes, galleries, quality boutiques, independent delis, grocers, traditional pubs, and bars just along 'The Prom' as it is affectionately known around these parts.
  • The cottage is in a great spot for beach goers, walkers and cyclists. Mumbles Pier and Lifeboat Station are an easy stroll away along The Promenade, from here you can take the coastal path to Limeslade Bay and on further still to Langland and Caswell Bays. Strikeout eastwards along The Prom to Swansea Marina a really interesting destination about 5 miles away along the Promenade. Here you can discover why Wales' greatest poet Dylan Thomas loved this town at The Dylan Thomas Centre and delve into the seafaring and industrial heritage of Swansea at The Maritime Museum, both new and vibrant visitor centres.

Oystermouth Castle

  • A Norman castle which sits majestically overlooking Mumbles and Swansea Bay is just 5 minutes walk through the woods from Oyster House. Features include ancient graffiti art from the 14th century, private staircases leading from vaults to banqueting halls and a newly commissioned 30-foot high glass bridge.
  • Events are held throughout the year, including outdoor Shakespeare plays and local festivals, so come along and make a visit to one of Wales' finest castles.

Local Beaches

  • Langland Bay is a golden sand child-friendly beach and supervised by Lifeguards in high season. The cute green and white beach huts line the beach front. Ideal for children the rock pools will keep them mezmerized for hours.
  • Caswell Bay, the coastal path leads here from Langland, easy access makes this a favorite with families. Golden sand and good surf. Surf lessons and equipment hire make for an action-packed day at this beauty spot. Finish with ice cream and treats at the cafe.

The Gower Peninsula

  • Mumbles is The Gateway to The Gower. In less than 10 minutes you have the choice of the stunning wild beaches of Three Cliffs Bay, Oxwich or Rhossili Bay, voted amongst the top 5 in the world.
  • Walk the Gower Way across the backbone of this hauntingly beautiful place. Preserved as Britain's first AONB since 1966. The wild ponies roam free on common land and the beaches are the best-kept secret of Wales. Visit Three Cliffs Bay for stunning scenery. Oxwich for miles of dunes, Rhossili to wlak out along the cliffs, consistently voted amongst the top 5 beaches in the worlls this really is a must.
  • Take an exhilarating trip on The Gower Explorer( seasonal). Starting at 'The Knab' in the village of Mumbles and out of Swansea Bay around the lighthouse. Your journey will give you a seagulls view of all the glorious sandy beaches and craggy headlands around the Gower Peninsula. Seals and dolphins follow playfully along. Surfers can be seen riding the waves on Crab Island off Langland Bay and beyond. If the weather is calm you may be lucky and spot Sunfish off Rhossili Headland.
  • The King Arthur Hotel at the heart of Gower in Reynoldston makes an ideal spot to stop for local Welsh award-winning food and ales after a long and carefree day exploring this magical place.

Day Trips

  • Explore the coastal city of Swansea once home to its famous son the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Enjoy cafe culture in the Marina, watersports in the bay and delicious local produce from the market including superfood laverbread, Welsh cakes, cockles and Gower Salt Marsh Lamb.
