The house was charming, everything we needed was there plus a lot more besides. The wine, cake and biscuits were a welcome treat. Comfortable accommodation and cool in the very hot weather which was a great bonus for us and our dog. The fully enclosed garden was a godsend for the dog too as he tends to 'roam'. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and also extremely helpful when I had a problem with the car, they were available when we needed them but otherwise we were left completely alone to enjoy the peace and quiet of the beautiful rural setting.

Solva/North Pembrokeshire

  • Solva, a short drive away, is a pretty harbour village with an ambience all its own - excellent restaurants serving local fish, several pubs and interesting shops - learn to sail from the harbour, walk around the Gribin Ridge to the secluded Gwadn Beach or try surfing (and kite flying) at the renowned Newgale Beach - 2 miles of sweeping, golden sands.

St Davids, Cathedral and the Bishop'sPalace

  • Wander down the ancient Pebbles path to the magnificent Cathedral and admire the view. Magnificent St Davids Cathedral, both a historical monument, as well as a place of worship, was built in 1181 and has weathered the centuries since. Visit the refectory in the cloisters for coffee or a meal and take time to enjoy the history and atmosphere of this very special place.

  • Across the tiny river Alun is the ruined Bishop's Palace with its lovely decorated stonework, rose window, halls and stairways. Restored sufficiently to fire the imagination of young and old, let your children play while they absorb the atmosphere of this site of medieval power and influence.

  • Although St Davids has the status of a city it is, in reality, a small village. Useful as a source of groceries - there is a well-stocked supermarket, butchers and greengrocers, as well as an ice cream and chocolate shop and two banks. There are also galleries and shops - clothes, gifts and outdoor gear; come and browse or buy - it is a delightful place to while away your holiday!

  • Don't miss the outdoor farmers' market on Thursdays throughout the summer on the Cross Square - all sorts of local produce and tasty morsels.

  • There are plenty of places to eat out all serving tasty local produce. Choose from Cwtch, St Davids Kitchen and the local Indian Restaurant as well as 4 pubs. You will not be short of dining options, just a short drive from Ffynnonddewi.

Boat Trips book in St Davids to visit the offshore islands

  • Boat trips to suit all tastes leave from St Justinians during the season (April to October) to circle Ramsey Island and to see the marine wildlife, birds and spectacular Pembrokeshire coastal scenery. It really is a must for your St.Davids stay.

  • Go dolphin and whale spotting too with longer trips out to Grassholm and the lighthouse! Book your tickets in St Davids.

Whitesands and the Peninsula beaches

  • Whitesands Beach, just a short drive from Ffynnonddewi is one of the most stunning locations on the Pembrokeshire coast. The wide sandy 'Blue Flag' beach has lifeguard cover in the summer and surf hire and surfing lessons available at the beach - so it is popular for swimming, surfing and water sports of all sorts. Whitesands is a lovely place to walk - your dog can walk there too between October and the end of April - and when you have had fun on the beach visit the Whitesands Cafe for tasty snacks and refreshments.

  • On the other side of the St. Davids, is Caerfai Bay. The scenery is spectacular and the beach, reached down a steep path, is a wonderful rock-pooling, game-playing platform for sandy heaven. If you walk the coastal path round the Peninsula you will find a number of small coves and less accessible beaches - at many times of year you will have them to yourself!

Pembrokeshire Coast Path

  • A 186 mile footpath, twisting and turning along the most breathtaking coastline in Britain. It covers almost every kind of maritime landscape from rugged cliff tops and sheltered coves to long stretches of sandy beaches and winding estuaries.
  • St Brides Bay Water Taxi Great for coastal walkers. Leave your car in Solva .You will be taken by water taxi to your chosen destination, then simply walk back along the coast path. Or walk the outward leg and make an appointment to be picked up & taken back by boat. Possible destinations, Little Haven, Porthclais, Porthmynawydd, St. Justinian, Nolton. Weather dependant - 01437 720972.

Priskilly Forest Golf Course

  • A challenging 9 hole course set in mature parkland with panoramic views. After your game do drive on to Letterston and have a meal at the award-winning licensed fish and chips restaurant 'Something's Cooking'.

Newgale beach

  • Almost 2 miles of golden sand backed by a huge pebble bank formed after a BIG storm in 1859.

  • Kitesurfing and surfing are popular on this beach and tuition is available.

  • Walk right down to the southern end to find a walk-through cave and numerous sheltered bays. Cross the river, at the back of the pebble bank opposite the cafe at the north end to gain access to several low tide bays.

  • At very low tide it's possible to walk round to Cwm Mawr beach but keep an eye on the tide times as beware of being cut off by the tide.

  • Dog restrictions apply to the middle third of the beach between the 1st May and 30th September.

  • Beach facilities - Toilets, lifeguards are on duty between the beginning of June to the end of September.

  • Onshore facilities - there is a surf shop, cafe and pub at the northern end of the beach. Surfing and kitesurfing tuition and board hire is available from the shop. At the southern end there's a cafe/beach shop, toilets.

Nolton Haven

  • A coastal hamlet, with a sandy beach, halfway along the coast of St.Brides Bay, the local Mariners Inn serves bar food.
  • East Nolton Riding Stables , 01437 710360, offers horse riding for novice and experienced riders. Try countryside trails or beach trekking on Druidstone Beach.

Broad Haven Beach and Haven Sports

  • Pack up a picnic for a glorious day on the beautiful sandy beach with Blue Flag status. Children will love exploring the rock pools with their fishing nets. The village has a well-stocked convenience shop, with bakery and post office, selling buckets, spades, fishing nets etc. The Ocean and the Galleon pubs, serve locally caught fresh fish and seafood, Italian restaurant and fish & chip take away.
  • Enhance your day on the beach with watersports equipment such as kayaks, surfboards, wetsuits, bodyboards, windsurfers, surf wear and more for sale or hire at Haven Sports.
  • At low tide take a walk from Broad Haven Beach across the sand to Settlands Bay and across to Little Haven, well worth a visit. Take care not to get stranded by the incoming tide. There's always the road to take you back.

Picton Castle

  • The Castle is open to visitors with guided tours offering an insight into the history of this interesting half classic castle/half grand country house.
  • The garden has been developed over centuries and it is a real pleasure to visit with secret owl garden. When you have spent time exploring, drop into the cafe in the courtyard. With seating both inside and out, Maria's provides excellent lunches and teatime fare as well as a range of interesting (often Spanish) Deli food.

Family Fun

  • Tour Pembrokeshire to discover an array of quality family attractions including Dr Beynon's Bug Farm and Grub Kitchen, Hangar 5 Trampolines, West Wales Karting, Wickedly Welsh Chocolate Factory, Folly Farm, Blue Lagoon Water Park, Manor Wildlife Park and many more.

Lovely traditional Pembrokeshire farmhouse for family holidays exploring the St Davids Peninsula.
