About the Area

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path and the Marloes Peninsula

  • The Pembrokeshire Coast Path which runs 186 miles from Poppit Sands in the north to Amroth in the south, circles the Marloes Peninsula and passes just at the bottom of the meadow bordering East Hook Dairy. Now joined up with the All Wales Coastal Path, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is a place of magnificent scenery, wonderful bird and wildlife and a huge variety of beautiful beaches.

Marloes Village

  • A mile and a half from this comfortable cottage is Marloes Village which boasts a convenience store, The Lobster Pot is the local pub and serves good pub food, and the Clock House Restaurant. It is a small village but with good facilities.

Marloes Mere Wetland

  • Just outside Marloes village is Marloes Mere - a wetland which was a famous source of medicinal leeches until the beginning of the twentieth century (though sadly they have now died out). Home to a huge variety of birds, there are hides for bird enthusiasts to spot - depending on the time of year - Teal and Snipe, Marsh Harriers, Barn Owls, Choughs, Swallows and Swifts. A really fascinating place!

Martins Haven and Skomer Island

  • Boat trips leave for the islands of Skomer (April to September) and Skokholm (April to July) from the tiny cove at Martins Haven, just half a mile along the lane from the Dairy. It is short distance to walk - though there is parking if you want to take the car.
  • The islands are famous the world over for their wonderful bird life - particularly for Skomer's very entertaining colony of puffins. The surrounding waters are also full of wildlife and visiting these islands, just off the Pembrokeshire coast, is a truly memorable life experience!

Pembrokeshire Beaches

  • There is a range of lovely beaches around the Marloes and Dale peninsulas, many of which welcome dogs all through the year. Musselwick, Marloes and Westdale Bay are all close by - visit these and the long sandy beaches in St Brides Bay - Broad Haven, Druidston Haven and Newgale - this is the perfect place for a beach holiday.

Dale and the Haven Waterway

  • A pretty coastal village, Dale is a centre for water sports - you can try your hand at sailing, powerboating, surfing, or kayaking - there is tuition for all abilities.
  • The crescent shaped bay at Dale is at the entrance to the Haven Waterway, a natural harbour which runs deep into the Pembrokeshire countryside. At its mouth the Haven is a busy thoroughfare with boats from the very large to the very small - while away the hours just watching the passing traffic.

Dining out on the Waterway

  • Have lunch and browse in the chandlery or watch the boats on the water at the Neyland Marina Cafe.
  • Check the Milford Marina website for the range of shops and cafes to enjoy on the quay. A colourful variety to choose from and expensive boats and yachts to admire.
  • At the Griffin Inn in Dale you can eat al fresco overlooking the bay or enjoy delicious snacks and meals at the Boat House Cafe.

The Brunel Cycle Track

  • Through Westfield Pill and along Brunel's (now disused) railway track, you can join the Brunel Trail. Walk or cycle up the valley into open countryside with lovely views on a traffic-free route.

The Torch Theatre

  • The Torch Theatre in Milford Haven has a cafe /bar and gallery and a full programme of stage performances and cinema. Check their website for details.

Family Activities in Pembrokeshire

  • There is plenty to do in Pembrokeshire. If you are looking for adventure, try the centres at TYF, Sealyham for outdoor activities, for both the experienced and the novice.
  • In South Pembrokeshire - Oakwood, Heatherton, The Dinosaur Park Tenby, Blue Lagoon Water Park, Manor Wildlife Park or Folly Farm offer a variety of different activities from theme park rides to exotic animals.

St Davids & Whitesands

  • Visit Britain's tiniest city of St Davids with characterful streets full of independent shops, galleries, cafes, bars and restaurants all wrapped around magnificent St Davids Cathedral. Complete your day out with a walk along the coast path or drive to glorious unspoiled Whitesands Bay 1.5 miles away.

Fabulous barn conversion on the Marloes Peninsula, Pembrokeshire for year round holidays.
