Lovely location but house was a bit tired with decor, bedding and bath mats needing update. Both can openers in kitchen were broken so had to resort to Swiss Army knife.
Trefrane House is ideal for families with a dog. However, some of the linen - particularly in the bathroom, is old and torn.
We stayed in Trefrane House this summer as 3 families with 3 generations, including 2 children under 12 and one baby. On the positive side, it was a decent size for this number, with enough room for anyone to disappear if they wished. The garden is a great size for family games. We found it clean and tidy on arrival. The cot we had requested beforehand (once on the original booking and again on paying the balance) was not there but a phone call elicited its arrival on the back of a pick-up truck! On the negative side though, it is now evident that the house needs a bit more care and attention, and it must have been quite a few years since any redecoration or overhaul has taken place. Nothing was bad enough to require immediate remedial action but the toilet flushes and handles were dodgy to say the least, and several hand-basin plugs were detached from the chains. Not all bedroom door catches were working properly. Damp from one shower room was coming through into the ceiling below and paint was peeling from the wall in the dining room. In the kitchen, the controls on the oven had become so worn we could not read them, and although there were plenty of plates and large cooking vessels, the supply of mugs and smaller-sized glasses was on the low side for 8 people - probably those broken in the past had not been replaced. Overall, we were not expecting luxury, but it might have helped if the owners had paid attention to the small details. In order to fully recommend it, the house now needs some love and attention to bring it to modern self-catering standards.

Thank you so much for your detailed feedback, a copy of which has been sent to the owner. We are sorry that the house was not quite as expected. As soon as we hear from the owner we will be in touch.
The bed and kitchen linens need replacing, all was clean but most of the bedding had small holes (the type of thing you get when the material becomes thin with use) which could all be clearly seen even without my glasses on! The tea towels provided, were ok but the oven gloves were more holes than material and to be honest dangerous as they provided no protection from hot pans. The markings on the cooker controls were worn off (again with use) but as we could not find any instruction booklet for the cooker we were left guessing at times, which did lead to us not wanting to use the oven and on one occasion having to dispose of food which burnt, not sure if this was the oven function we chose or the position in the oven as we found anything cooked near the top of the main oven burnt! We could not use the smaller oven as there were no pans or trays provided which fitted into this oven. It was, however, very nice to have large pots, we often find we can not cook enough pasta for a meal in one pot as they are too small.

Great cottage. One of the showers had a small drainage problem.
If you've ever visited a holiday cottage before, you most likely have seen a guestbook in the property for guests to leave a review for others when they arrive. Each of the following comments was lovingly left by people just like you in the guestbook left at Trefrane House.
The perfect holiday stay - can't rate it highly enough! We had a wonderful stay at Trefrane House and Lodge with lots of family at the end of August / early September. What a beautiful house - so much space. Everything we could possibly need. The owners bent over backwards to make sure everything we needed was there. Great outdoor space too for our football-crazy boys. Such a lovely place to come back to at the end of a beach day. An easy walk to Newgale beach and the beautiful coastal paths. It really is as lovely as it looks in the photographs.
