This is a very hard review to write as one feels that one is being unfair but equally one can only be honest. The cottage is a solid holiday cottage - comfortable with virtually everything you could need. The only gripe about the cottage itself was that we were called as we were leaving to say that no towels would be provided - not had that from a holiday let before. Provision of towels is pretty standard. Notwithstanding that small, minor gripe, the owners clearly look after it and there is nothing wrong with the cottage itself. So, why does a solid three star cottage get knocked down to two stars? There are three reasons.Pembroke is not blessed with places to eat out. We prefer to stay in towns so you can walk to restaurants in the evening but in Pembroke there aren't any that you'd want to eat in - if you don't want to get in the car every time you want to go and eat (and the rail service to Tenby is a joke) then this isn't the cottage for you. If you plan to do your own meals then disregard this point as the kitchen is well equipped, large and functional.Second, the cottage is advertised as having a parking space. The parking space would be hard to access anyway but the neighbour parks in such a way as to make it virtually impossible to get in. If you have a very small car (think Fiesta) then you might just get in but if your car is of a reasonable size (family saloon) then you can forget it. We scratched our car badly on day one in an effort to unload it close to the cottage and then ended up parking a six minute walk away in a car park which cost £25 for the week. And (see above) you will need to drive everywhere. It gets very tiresome walking to and from the car all of the time.Third, you are next door to the Co-Op which is great for essentials. You are also next door to its air conditioning unit. Now I accept we were there in the hottest week of the year but the noise was annoying. (I suspect it may be better when the weather is cooler). As I say, hard to write. It should be a really solid three star review but there are some factors about the location rather than the cottage which knock it down.

Thank you for your feedback on Goose Barn and the contents inside the property, we are glad that you found everything you need and found the well-equipped kitchen very useful. Unfortunately due to COVID, the cleaners felt uncomfortable with handling damp towels that are left over after a guests stay - under normal circumstances these are always provided - a message was sent to you by the owner prior to your stay asking you to bring your own towels. We are sorry that you did not enjoy the restaurants located in Pembroke, this is obviously out of the owner's control but we will look to provide any leaflets in the property for nice restaurants in the local area that we would recommend. The parking has never been an issue at the property and we have often had guests who have managed to park two cars on the drive, although we do only recommend one. As per the text messages exchanged between you and the owner during your stay - we are glad that you still found time to enjoy your stay in Pembrokeshire and appreciate you taking the time to write feedback, we have taken all of the points on board.

The cottage was spacious, homely and comfortable and in a superb location. Couldn't fault the cottage, the only issue we had was with parking.

Cottage fine but parking awkward, kitchen well equipped but unbelievably noisy floorboards made for disturbed sleep downstairs! Phoned morning of arrival and told to take bath towels, luckily we hadn't left. Few other issues however enjoyed our week in Pembrokeshire.

We've had a lovely hot, sunny week here in Wales. We've been to a handfull of wonderful places such as the beautiful Lily Ponds that lef to a lovely big beach with water you could see right through like glass. We also went to St Govan's Chapel which is quite close by. Highly recommend a cruise around Skomer Island where we saw Puffins & Porpoise and took nice pictures. Our stay here was nice and cozy and we enjoyed every minute of it!

We have had a lovely stay at Goose Barn. Cottage has everything you need and is so cosy and comfortable. Husband and son loved the games room and had darts & pool competitions. Have enjoyed our holiday here immensely. Great location for privacy and not far to take the dog to the park.

We have just had the hottest week for years! And it's been absolutely fabulous and a wonderful place to stay. We can't stop smiling and drinking! Pembrokeshire is a haven, well full of havens! We will be back to try out the best beaches in the UK, especially Broad Haven South and Barafundle.

Quiet and cute Wanted to stay in Pembroke but also have the feel of a quiet holiday retreat. Goose Farm offered both. It had enough room for friends and we had a games night in the games room. It is clean quiet but also close enough to the shops and the town. We also explored the area and you can easily access beautiful bays like Freshwater east and Manorbier bay. Great for a group of friends and family. Recommend to anyone interested in history, fun, relaxation and sport.

About the Area

If you would like more information on the local area, please call us on 01348 837871 to speak to one of our friendly team.

Little England Beyond Wales

  • South Pembrokeshire is often referred to as 'little England beyond Wales'. The locals speak English, place names are English and yet the area is surrounded by Welsh speakers on all sides even in north Pembrokeshire! During the 12th century Henry I allowed a number of Flemish to settle in the area and they were soon joined by English settlers. The Flemish and English languages were similar at the time. This led to the extinction of Welsh in the area.

Pembroke & Pembroke Castle

  • Pembroke is an historic town with its magnificent Norman Castle set high on a ridge between 2 tidal inlets and is famous as the birthplace of Henry VII and the Tudor Dynasty. Visitors are rewarded with a fascinating insight into the medieval life style.
  • There are scenic walks nearby including one around the picturesque mill pond with its resident swans, herons and ducks. The high street, lined with predominantly Georgian buildings has a variety of restaurants, cafes (including an award winning fish & chip restaurant), shops, pubs and antique centres and is within a 5 minute stroll. Pets welcome.

The Cornstore, Pembroke near holiday cottage

  • Do visit 'The Cornstore' overlooking the waterway with its unique range of furniture/fancy goods and an extremely good coffee shop.

Pembroke Train Station just a few hundred yards

  • Pembroke also has a railway station so it is possible to let the train take the strain and leave the car at home!

South Pembrokeshire Heritage Coast

  • The wonderful and unique South Pembs Heritage Coast with stunning beaches and coastal walks is within a short drive.

Freshwater East near holiday cottage in Pembroke

  • Translucent azure water with the sands backed by dunes, great for surfing, sailing, swimming and fishing.

Manorbier, Freshwater West & Barafundle Beaches

  • Manorbier 'the fairest place on all the earth' with its Norman castle and sheltered sandy cove popular with families and Freshwater West famed for its surf and ideal for rock pooling and exotic Barafundle - one of the loveliest beaches in the UK with sparkling blue seas ringed by dunes.

Bosherston, Lily Ponds (NT) & Broad Haven South Sandy Beach

  • Broad Haven South sandy beach, with its famous Church Rock is reached via a footpath through Bosherston Lily Ponds (NT) (breathtaking display of water lilies in early June) - take tea at 'Ye Olde Worlde Tearoom' in Bosherston (permits for fishing in the Lily Ponds available here) with its menu almost unchanged for the last 50 years.

Stackpole Village, Quay (NT) & Coastal Path

  • Do visit Stackpole village where the Inn serves award winning bar food and Stackpole Quay (NT) where there is an excellent tea room and direct access onto the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.

Wild Guides Pembrokeshire

  • Personalised tailor made guided nature tours for families and groups. Phone Anna Sutcliffe 25 years world wide guiding 01646 636754. Choose walking or canoeing for your party of 5.

Family Days Out

  • South Pembrokeshire has many quality family attractions including Folly Farm and Adventure Park at Begelly, Heatherton Sports Park near Tenby, Manor Wildlife Park at St Florence and the Tudor Merchant's House (NT) Tenby - just to name a few!

Fascinating Victorian Tenby & 5 sandy beaches

  • Relax on any of Tenby's five beautiful blue flag beaches and or take a boat trip to Caldey Island and sample the wonderful lavender grown by its Cistercian Monks.

King Quoit Burial Chamber, Manorbier

  • The ancient chamber with two small sides and cap stone is spectacularly placed above Manorbier Bay along the coastal path making an interesting focus for a walk. Pets welcome.

Grandiflora Plant & Garden Centre, St Florence

  • Wales' only specialist semi mature plant centre. Garden accessories and unusual gifts are also on sale. Drinks and excellent homemade food are served in the Bramley Tearoom.

Tenby Golf
