Great house with everything really well thought through for large parties of people. Such as 2 big tea pots, 2 cafetière, loads of mugs, lots of toilets and plenty of parking. Set slightly above Porthgain it was quiet and has lovely views of the harbour and sunsets from the sunroom. The boot room was another bonus for damp dogs and walking equipment. If we had been there in summer the gardens would have been perfect.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Harbour View. The house is warm, comfortable and well equipped. It is in a perfect location for the coastal path and the lovely village of Porthgain. Having a dog we thought the lounge being upstairs and the kitchen downstairs was going to be a problem but no problem existed due to the door leading to the back garden from the upper hallway. The outside tap for muddy boots and paws is a brilliant idea! Our dog loved sitting in the safe and enclosed garden. I would not hesitate to recommend Harbour View and return for a second visit.

About the Area

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path

  • The Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs both east and west from Porthgain. The dramatic coastal scenery, flower and wildlife are what make Pembrokeshire one of the world’s best holiday destinations (National Geographic voted Pembrokeshire the 2nd best coastal destination in the world) splendid at all times of year, but the explosion of colour with the spring flowers is something to behold!

Treath Llyfyn Beach near Porthgain holiday cottage

  • The Pembrokeshire Coast Path to the west brings you to Traeth Llyfyn beach - a wide expanse of sand great for family beach days, picnics and games of rounders (with a long staircase down to the sand).

Abereiddi and the Blue Lagoon

  • Neighbouring Abereiddi, has pretty colour washed former miners cottages, black sandy beach where dogs are welcome all year round and the remarkable Blue Lagoon. Popular with families, the sand which is visible at low tide, also contains a high concentration of fossils and is a draw for fossil hunters.

St Davids City and St Davids Peninsula Pembrokeshire

  • St Davids is Britain’s smallest city. It’s lovely medieval cathedral and ancient Bishops’ Palace form the historic centre but it also boasts a number of modern amenities - banks, post office, supermarket, filling station, chemist, doctor and vet – as well as a good range of interesting shops.

Boat Trips to Ramsey Island

  • Book a boat trip to Ramsey Island and experience the thrill of a jet boat trip across Ramsey Sound, through the infamous Bitches, and then the contrast of moving in close to the cliffs to see the wildlife at close range. For the less adventurous there are conventional boats which both circuit and land on the island.

Whitesands Beach

  • Whitesands Beach, just eight miles from Porthgain holiday cottage, is one of the most stunning locations on the Pembrokeshire coast. The wide sandy beach has a Blue Flag award and lifeguard cover in the summer make it popular for swimming, surfing and water sports of all sorts with surf hire and surfing lessons available at the beach. The beach is a lovely place to walk and between October and the end of April your dog can come too. When you have had fun on the beach visit the Whitesands Cafe for tasty snacks and refreshments.

Fishguard Town and Pretty Lower Fishguard Harbour

  • Wander amongst the boats or walk out along the quayside to the sailing club and (low tide) beach beyond of this pretty, unspoiled coastal harbour. Buy fantastic local produce from the weekly farmers market and investigate the individual shops, restaurants and pubs in this 'up and coming' little town. (The Lonely Planet Guide).
Pony Trekking
  • Visit Llanwnda Riding School in Goodwick for trekking through spectacular coastal scenery in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.Horses available for all abilities.

Scolton Manor and County Museum

  • Just a little further afield, enjoy a trip back to Victorian times at the Scolton Manor and Country Museum. The house has been sympathetically restored to give a taste of Victorian society and style and together with 60 acres of parkland where your well behaved dog on a lead is welcome and a cafe providing delicious homemade cakes, this is a great family day out.

Large holiday house with hot tub in the historic coastal village of Porthgain on the rugged north Pembrokeshire coast.
