About Smithy Cottage

Rural Pembrokeshire Cottage - above Solva River Valley Dogs welcome

  • Near to St Davids on the edge of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and tucked away in the tiny hamlet of Skyfog, the Smithy Cottage is a modern pet friendly cottage on the site of an ancient farm dwelling (1798).
  • Newly decorated and comfortably furnished with many intriguing photographs and original paintings by the talented owner, the cottage is set within a small enclosure containing the old Smithy - the tools are left as the blacksmith finished on his last working day in the 1940's. The neighbouring clog maker's workshop was recently removed intact to be preserved in the National Folk Museum of Wales at St Fagans!
  • South facing and catching the morning sunshine, the grounds are full of wildlife and run down to the passing stream and across a small bridge to the meadows beyond.
  • A footpath leads you on to the nearby 50 acre Skyfog Common (NT), designated an SSSI and free for you to roam. The orchard is planted with apple, plum, pear and quince trees and guests are invited to enjoy the fruit as it ripens.

Would have been five if the main oven worked and a grab rail to get in and out of the bath shower had been fitted

Comfortable cottage in lovely area. However the cottage still needs a little updating. Bottom oven doesnt work, top oven needs cleaning (set smoke alarm off when switched on). No hairdryer. Ceiling in twin bedroom needs attention as water has leaked from flat roof.

Lovely little getaway. Even though Solva and St David's were busy the location of this cottage allows you to escape and enjoy the peaceful sights and sounds of nature - a running stream, birds, meadow flowers surrounding the wonderful paddock. We spent so much time relaxing on the beautiful decked area and wandering down to the stream for our dogs to cool off from the lovely warm sun. Will book again late Autumn so that we can also enjoy relaxing in front of the Woodburner in the living room.

A wonderful week with the most amazing Indian summer weather!! Lovely cottage and grounds in a lovely area. It's an area we would return to and recommend. Great art work, Lisa very bold and colourful makes me want to 'go big' in my work! A note of caution re Newgale beach - lovely if you are young and fit enough to scale the sea defenses to get to it (huge pebble bank) but if not, like me, don't try! Wine much appreciated! Thank you.

Really enjoyed our stay, lovely home and lots of room for the children & puppy to play! We came for a wedding in Solva but also visited Newgale beach & St Davids. Thank you

We had a brilliant holiday here in Solva. What a fantastic area. We had great weather for most of the week, but rain on the last 2 days - it didn't stop us though. We had so much fun down on Newgale beach in our shorts in the rain. Thank you for the wine & the lovely property. We will be back to Solva.

We have had a lovely holiday. The Cottage is very comfortable and very eclectic. Enjoyed going to Whitesands & Porthclais. Weather has been kind to us. Maisie, our Jack Russel, has had a fab time running on the beaches, especially Newgale. Love this part of Pembrokeshire. Thanks very much. Thanks for the wine and the use of the paddock.
